Great place to see giant sequoias

My wife, adult daughter and I were staying at Bass Lake the end of June 2016. The drive from our condo to the Sierra National Forest was scenic, meaning it was a winding road with steep drop offs. Still, there are clear signs along the way directing you to the trails. The parking lot for the trail is small and... More

We were disappointed to learn that the Mariposa Grove was closed, so we started looking for other sequoia groves in the area. After reading about the Nelder Grove, we headed up to see some large trees. The Shadow of the Giants Trail was nicely designated on signs in that area, which is a good thing because the many of the... More

This is great trail. Get to see many sequoia up close along with many other evergreens. It was pleasant easy hike.

Lots of wild plants and animals. Easy to get around but bring plenty of water because it gets very hot in the summer. The earlier you can get there, the better it is.

On a recent trip to Yosemite we asked a local photographer his opinion of what was a good walking trail. He let us in on what has to be one of the best kept secrets of the area. It is called "Shadow of the Giants" trail in a place called Nelders Grove, It is actually outside of Yosemite and can... More

We read great reviews about this little-known trail and were eager to give it a try. The roads to the trail are really not marked at all and our GPS did not even list this trail. The only map we could find of the area was a hand-drawn map provided by people who support the area. This map was not... More

This grove is off the beaten path but for us was worth the trek. It is about 30 mins off from hwy 41 along a narrow winding road. There are signs to guide you but some were broken and we used our GPS to help us find it. The last bit of road is a dirt road and not every... More

Many beautiful and majestic giant sequoias that are not well known to the general public. A most enjoyable walking trail, cleared each year by volunteer Camp Fire Groups

We went there today with our 4 young children...They loved it apart from the many mosquitos. It is beautiful.. A very dense and isolated forest area with lots of different kind of plants and trees. I've never seen so many in one place. There is a small stream and it is very moist and cool. (Refreshing from the dry heat... More
