A Beautiful journey from LA to Emeryville (San Francisco), plenty of seat space, polite informative train staff & easy to walk around the train to buffet car etc. As we were only going from LA to Emeryville (approx 10hrs) we didn't need a roomette, but...More

Amtrak Coast Starlight This train runs from Los Angeles to Portland, OR. We boarded in Los Angeles for a 10 hour trip to Emeryville which is just across the bay from San Francisco. We had a 5 hour wait between trains which highlighted another positive...More

Amtrak: There were so many announcements from the dining car, conductor including when folks were taking a break and need for reservations, it was irritating. Would have rated a 4 if the dining announcements wasn't so annoying and aggressive. Got on in Seattle and travelled...More

Does the Coast Starlight travel via the route 101?

Answer
Response from Bryan H | Reviewed this property |
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Once Amtrak hits Oregon, it doesn't follow 101 at all. One of the things I like about the trip is that it is off by itself when going over the mountains with no roads in sight.
