This was a great trip - I was pleasantly surprised by the stunning scenery along the way. Our train was clean and comfortable and the Parlour Car, which is a vintage, restored 1950's car was a great place to relax, enjoy the scenery, eat and...More

We took the Coast Starlight from San Jose to LA. 11 hours total. Had lunch & dinner in the dinning car which was included in the cost of a roomette. Roomette was small (roomettes are located on both sides of center aisle) but enjoyable. If...More

So tested out the Coast Starlight, specifically the Roomette and the Business class. My journey was from Burbank to San Luis Obispo. Northbound in a Roomette: Okay, so I chose not to get on at Union Station because it wasn't convenient. Totally get the Metropolitan...More

Outside of a basic coach seat the cost is not worth the product. With the exception of one Amtrak employee, her name is Yolanda and she is amazing, the staff appear to have no concern or idea of how to.provide service to paying customers. Train...More

Travelling from Seattle to Portland on the Starlight, we had a delayed start because of a late arriving train. However, with an excellent journey, by the time we left the train, only a short way into the full distance, half the delay had been recovered...More

Really enjoyable and forces you to slow down. Internet is not that powerful and the train is slow. The train was on time, clean and the staff was really friendly.

Yes, I have. There are downsides and upsides to each sleeper room. One upside to "E" is that there's only one side of your room where you could hear people in their sleeper. The other side is the stairwell going down and the... More

Does the Coast Starlight travel via the route 101?

Answer
Response from Bryan H | Reviewed this property |
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Once Amtrak hits Oregon, it doesn't follow 101 at all. One of the things I like about the trip is that it is off by itself when going over the mountains with no roads in sight.
