After minutes of leaving the L.A. depot the coastline appeared and it was magnificent! We rode along the beautiful ocean all day. I took the most amazing photos. After a good nights rest in my seat, which was actually quite comfortable, I was compelled to...More

I recently retired and treated myself to another Coast Starlight trip, but this time, instead of booking a Roomette, I opted for Business Class. I will say I had higher expectations overall but regardless, I'm glad I experienced it and would probably use this class...More

I traveled with my mother from Oakland near San Francisco to Los Angeles - the 12 hour journey was an incredible and comfortable way to see the Central Valley and southern Pacific coast of California. We sat in the top of the cafe car with...More

25 years ago I took a trip on the train where I had a sleeper. I remember it as a grand adventure. I had what Amtrak now calls a roomette. Perfect for a single guy. But this time I was going with my wife, and...More

Our first Amtrak journey on the west coast started with a trip on train 14 Coast Starlight from LA to San Francisco. Having done the coastal drive over a dozen times and countless miles in airplane seats decided to cross this one off the bucket...More

Took the Coast Starlight from Seattle to Los Angeles. The roomette was small and I expected that. Room for only one small piece of luggage, and a small closet to hang a few items in. The attendant was very friendly and helpful. The Parlor car...More

My spouse and I are currently stuck on this train. When it’s actually moving, the views are great in coastal California and most of Oregon, but delays plague this train like flies on poop. For instance, the train left Los Angeles on time yesterday, we’ve...More

Because I cannot fly, we decided to take the train to Oregon for a leisurely two+ week tour of Oregon (I can't sit for long road trips either.) We'd taken the train for the first time ever in May to Texas and enjoyed it a...More

No, but we were happy to tip. We got very good service. I would add that a LOT of people did not tip. We also tipped the steward $20 for his work.
