You know when you are getting old when you walk around and recognise things from your own childhood or that your parents/grandparents had.
A quaint little set up of reminders of yesteryear - especially loved the medical/first aid supplies, the laundry and kitchen pantrys.
The old cell was a big hit with a group of other visitors

We were greeted by friendly locals that run the museum voluntarily. We had a great walk around the museum and then to the outside buildings that have awesome exhibits. It is right across from Tantalus winery and with a bus stop right outside it is well worth a visit.

This museum is the cutest thing and well worth a visit to discover a little more about Waiheke history and the culture of the island. There are also sorts of interesting local and domestic artifacts and stories to uncover. Be sure to visit all the little cottages and the lockup dotted about the grounds.
Entry is by donation and there a some interessting re-prints of old postcards and photos to purchase.
It's really lovely and you can get there easily on the hop on hop off bus. It;s clearly visible from the road.

On the way to Onetangi beach, we visited Waiheke Museum and historical village.
It is a great place to discover Waiheke’s history through the comprehensive collections. The museum is conveniently located on the main bus stop.

What a well-preserved record of life on the Island and the kiwi way of life in general this wee gem is. Don't expect Te Papa quality exhibits, but do expect to be impressed by the memories and careful records that are captured for future generations by volunteers. Definately worth stopping in at en route to Onetangi or the Vineyards!

While there's no fixed entrance fee, be sure to bring some money to make a koha (donation) towards the volunteers' on-going preservation efforts.

Small museum with little homes, well kept premises, great to pop in for a while and experience the heritage of Waiheke Island.

A series of buildings with items from the last 60 years on the island. Brings back some nostalgia. Donation of $3 requested but not mandatory. Worth the $3 but wouldn’t pay much more.

Got off the hop-on-off bus and there it was, but opens at 1000. No charge but entry by donation. Run by the local historical society. We found it engaging and memory prompting. The there are also exhibits in the surrounding cottages. No cafe or food service but close to two main vineyards. Not sure if children would find it as interesting as we did.

A small museum that seems to be trying its best to survive. A hodgepodge of different exhibits and filled cottages.
