We drove the Queen Charlotte Sound from Picton to Havelock, famous for its Green Lip Mussels, which was a delight with lovely vistas at almost every turn. We took the turning right at Linkwater and drove for several kilometres before ending up Mistletoe Bay where we walked and then drove on Te Mahia Bay for coffee.

I've been on the Picton/Wellington ferry a few times in the past, but I had forgotten just how fabulous the views are in Queen Charlotte sound. Utterly stunning.

Stunning drive and definitely not to be missed. We had very poor weather and even then it was amazing.

A well maintained track, we just did a short walk to Davey's Bay. It's forested although less dense than Abel Tasman, and so affords better views out to the water. The forest provides good cover from the rain...which there was plenty of while we visited! In rain, grey weather, and low cloud...much of the beauty that surrounds you is lost.... More

Did the car route as well as sea trips. Car went by queen Charlotte drive. Very winding but worth it to get an idea of the layout of the sound. Take a picnic and stop at start of track at a kiwi.

Queen Charlotte Sound is in the eastern part of the Marlborough Sounds and is extremely scenic. We travelled by the Interislander Ferry to take in the views and having good weather was a bonus to appreciate the stunning coastline along the way. The sounds are idyllic and unspoilt and worth a visit when in the area.

We only did the easier sections from Ship Cove to Camp Bay, but that was enough for the kids. The track is in good condition, and well serviced by accommodation and transport (water taxi).

What a beautiful place. Blue sea, blue sky and lovely cooling breeze. We rented a house with amazing views, right on the sounds. It was lovely watching the tide coming in and going out, and the variety of wildlife there.
