The Giant's House - A historic Akaroa house with original artworks,...

The Giant's House - A historic Akaroa house with original artworks, terraced gardens with sculptures and mosaics. Very Unique. A creative feast and a wonderful experience. Romantic secluded and quiet, but only a few minutes walk to the centre of Akaroa. The Giant's House was the first bank managers house in Akaroa, built 1880 of totara and kauri. It is grand in size, proportions, and features. Elegant and comfortable, it is designed and decorated in the french style. Being the home of an artist it balances and contrasts the historic and contemporary. Both the house and terraced gardens are full of surprises -expect the unexpected at The Giant's House!

I have been here twice now. The first time with just my granddaughter when she was about 2 and the second time with both my grandchildren. First let me say, it is a VERY VERY STEEP walk up hill to the entrance. If you are not physical fit or have a health problem I wouldn't recommend trying it. Second, if... More

This house is just amazing. Has to be seen to be believed. All the sculptures, and there are many, are made from concrete mosaic. The time and effort that has gone into this display is incredible. A must see when in Akaroa.

Well worth the uphill entrance and fee, one of the most delightful experiences in ages, taking time to wander from vista to vista the afternoon flew by

Meet at the gate by the owner with her lovely blue hair. Like going back to your childhood with all the delightful statues, and the gardens are wonderful.

This is an amazing place to visit ..well worth the 20.00 entry fee. The driveway is very steep but it is well worth it once you get inside. The art amongst the gardens is wonderful. Lots to see on different levels of the garden, so you do have to be able to walk up different levels. Amazing views of the... More

Last week when visiting Akoroa three of us took the time to visit this amazing place. It is spectacular. I have seen many mosaic gardens and pieces around the world but nothing beats this. It is stunning. The artist is so talented and has such vision I cannot begin to explain. Akoroa is a wonderful place to visit but this... More

We were not sure what to expect of this amazing place. It was like going into wonderland a place full of colour art and beauty. I have never experienced such an incredible visits such as this. The gardens are spectacular and the piano with its succulents in it were stunning. A must see for sure.

Thoroughly enjoyed looking around, would have been better if it hadn't been raining, would definitely go again if I'm ever back. Highly recommend.

What an amazing place to visit. There is no other place anything like it, all created by an amazing woman. Words and photos can't do it justice - you simple must visit The Giants House to see for yourself.
