Very informative tour with lots to see and learn. Bit of a steep drive up to the property but well worth it. Complementary drinks available.

Frank picked us up from the port. It was a lovely twenty minute drive to his farm. As we drove up the steep slope to the farm, the views of the harbour is spectacular. His daughter Alex did a short introduction on Alpacas and their fur. After that, we were briefed on how to properly pet the alpacas. He were... More

The Shamarra Farm is really worth visiting! The Family has more than 100 Alpacas in all kinds of colours. After an introduction you get to take pictures & feed the Alpacas. The atmosphere is relaxed & the Family Takes care that visiting groups are not too big and not overwhelming for the animals. You Are allowed to touch them, if... More

We were picked up at our ship and driven to the farm. it was a lovely view of the countryside. When we arrived one mum alpaca had just birthed a baby that was amazing to see. We then had a tour of the farm and how it works. Other vistors with children were there and the alpacas just loved interacting... More

This was on top of the list of things I really wanted to do while on holiday in Akaroa and I was not disappointed. Very close up encounters with lots of friendly Alpaca and a knowledgeable guide to show us around. My 88 year old mum wasn't sure if she would enjoy it but says it was the highlight of... More

I had always wanted to get acquainted with alpacas and this tour was all I could ask for. Informative, interesting and kind on the alpacas. I enjoyed feeding and watching them. It was the third tour of the day and the alpacas were still not tired of their visitors. They choose whether to co operate or not and thankfully some... More

I had found the Alpaca Farm on TripAdvisor. My husband was sure I only wanted to go to buy some Alpaca clothing. We were three couples and were had the best time learning, feeding and spending time with the alpacas. We were able to walk them and pet them and learn all about them. We were really thrilled with this... More

I admit, this was our kids idea to visit the Alpaca Farm. It wasn't on my list. It had all the hallmarks of tourist trap, but was actually quite well organized and the family that raises the alpaca's are really awesome. We heard and overview of the family business and general information about Alpacas. We visited the males, then the... More

A most interesting time with passionate staff. Great too for children as the Alpaca's are sooooo freindly and docile. Great veiws from the working farm. (Do not attempt to take your large campervan up the driveway. Single lane and steep) A single phone call and I'm sure one of the friendly staff will drive down and pick you up.
