We started our Akaroa Harbour Nature Cruises back in 1985 and are the original cruise operators so we know the harbour pretty well. Along the way we've been named as the supreme tourism award winner and also hold the Enviro gold award from Qualmark to recognise our dedication to the environment.Your nature cruise will be on the 'Black Cat', a large modern and stable vessel allowing great views of all the scenery and wildlife including dolphins, seals and penguins. If by some chance you do not see dolphins then we will provide a ticket to come again another day. This happens on average 2% of the time across the whole year.We look forward to meeting you and giving you the best stories from the Akaroa Harbour.

Dan, Helen and Julian, few of the many people who made this cruise so personal, warm and awesome. They were lovely throughout the journey and always ready to help. We had some really good humour thrown in through time and they kept us on our feet and entertained with the birds, seals and dolphins! I loved the part where we... More

My family and I had this booked as the last day of our holiday to New Zealand and what a way to finish. We were staying in Christchurch, and had booked an independent transfer to Akaroa. The staff at Black Cat cruises are very friendly and informative. They provide you with all the kit you need and advise of what... More

We were fortunate - beautiful sunny day and almost no breeze. The scenery is truly amazing and we saw penguins, seals, dolphins, and other bird life. The geology is outstanding - I've not seen anything like it elsewhere. A really worthwhile trip.

All i can say is AMAZING!! My family of 5 including 2 toddlers thoroughly enjoyed this cruise...The commentary from Andrew was very informative and the 2 ladies helping out on the boat were really friendly and welcoming... The day was sunny and dolphins were absolutely beautiful. We hung out at the mouth of the harbour while they swam and played... More

Our Black Cat experience was part of our Princess Cruise around NZ and did not disappoint, despite the poor weather. We arrived at the office to be advised that staff were giving the option of a refund, as the weather was pretty rough. But dosed up on travel sickness pills and wrapped in warm clothes we took the plunge and... More

An amazing harbour cruise with excellent, informative and witty commentary throughout. A tour around the harbour with historical items pointed out and then comes all the wildlife.... a little penguin swimming on by, numerous seals with pups playing away, dolphins jumping out of the water and topped off with a national geographic moment... 10-15 birds flying next to us at... Today we experienced the thrill of Hectors Dolphins at Akaroa with family from the uk! Amazing creatures. Prehaps poor recent weather affected the mood of the crew, sadly for us two mums with three excited preteens in tow, the guy assisting us to kit up was not very helpful. We stuggled for quite a time, requested assistance a few times... More

Staff were very attentive and humorous, provided jackets to avoid the rain! Saw some incredible wild life, dolphins and seals! Captain even turned the boat around to see the dolphins again. Will definitely be going again!

Not sure why they're called 'Black Cat'. It's all about the dolphins, let's face it... The cruise Black Cat offered was reasonably priced, well guided (the captain might have been too chatty and excited, but it's forgiven, it is an exciting job) and the route is superb. Yep, you'll see dolphins and other sea animals such as seals, birds and... More

Excellent nature cruise with seals, dolphins and birds seen. Crew were great at spotting dolphins and gave us plenty of opportunity to and time to see things. Thoroughly enjoyed the trip.
