Overview
More
The Fremantle Round House is the oldest public building in Western Australia, purpose built as a gaol (jail) when the Swan River Colony was first settled. Volunteer Guides are available to share the history of the Round House with visitors and the Round House is open from 10.30am to 3.30pm daily (except for Christmas Day and Good Friday). The cannon is fired (weather permitting) at 1.00pm every day on the Gun Deck and we welcome visitors applying to be the Honorary Gunner for the day.

This little place is very interesting as to how the people who did not comply with the rules got treated. Massively basic and very interesting, there is also a good view out over the sea, but also down into the city. At the moment there...More

We were there in time for the 1pm gun and the related history explanation. Guides very knowledgeable. Great view out to sea and along the main High Street into town.

Wow how things have changed for prisoners...a very small stone room with a basic pad on the floor and that was about it for the criminals! Not like today. A very interesting tourist site on the water, so it has a great view too.

The roundhouse offers a great insight into the early history of Fremantle. Given it was a prison you can only imagine what it must have been like to have lived there hundreds of years ago. Entry by donation. This is family friendly and affordable for...More

They sure did. Great young fellas too, with a stack of knowledge dispensed with great gusto. Okay, sure, whatever. You walk in and drop in a gold coin and all you see are a few basic rooms and an open roofed yard. So what? Fact...More

The historical centre of town where history and tourism collide. A very quaint early prison which Freemantle quickly grew out of. There are pictures, maps and a few displays and a well in the centre. A ball drop at 1pm has historical significance and this...More

A free attraction staffed by volunteers. Its only small but certainly worth a visit for the history and the views. Try to make the 1 o'clock firing of the cannon and talk.

This is good value for 30 minutes or so. It’s easy to f8nd, the guides are really good at what they do and it does rant take too long to see and enjoy. If it’s a hot day, it’s well worth getting there early as...More

Perfectly positioned with a tunnel leading to the beach under the building. Historically interesting as it once was a gaol many years ago.

The Round House was yet to open when we were here, but the surrounding itself is attractive enough for us to stroll around. With no other tourist around, we get to enjoy the beautiful view of Bathers Beach, spend some time with the Round House...More
