Ancient church well preserved. The site really rings back the ancient life of the people who lived at the time and the importance of worship.

I am so glad I made the climb. It's a little steep and slippery so wear comfortable shoes that you can climb in. I actually saw people trying to do it in flip flops... The view is incredible! The church was a slight disappointment but...More

If you're at monemvasia anyway, walk up to the church. The view is breathtaking and you can view the village from a different angle. The church itself is one of 42 in a radius of 250 meters (not kidding) and is therefore not extremely interesting....More

I visited Agia Sofia, recently restored church, during Easter and it was a unique experience. Mind though that the climb is quite difficult and should be avoided on hot days.

In 15 minutes walk, get there early in the morning and enjoy this beautiful and peaceful place. You can get into this beautiful church from 12th century Enjoy!

Taking approximately 10 minutes from Monemvasia town square, the Agia Sofia church is a welcome stop to rest and shelter from the sun. The imposing facade and detailed architectural differences (Byzantine, Venetian, Ottoman) make the church a very interesting visit. A guided tour is recommended.

Said to be a copy of the one in Istanbul it looks almost exactly the same, though smaller. Too bad it is not open, so we can only looked the outside but the sight is breath taking, and the climb is quite manageable.

After climbing for a long walk (!) on top of the rock expect a rewarding view of the open seas below.
