Kuressaare castle presents well preserved medieval fortification. It is an impressive historic site. Today it serves a site for concerts and other events. A few hours at minimum should be allocated to visit this great attraction.

You can see the castle for free without buying a ticket for the Museum, but can only view the outside. Nicely restored, with the views from the ramparts being especially good.

Once you get used to low doorways, the extensive displays dating back to medieval times are interesting. Be sure to pick-up the English explanations that are on sheets beside the entrance to each room.

Very well restored castle with lots of different rooms and stairs. Fun to explore. A bit like a labyrinth but not so large that you will get lost

A most remarkalbe medieval survivor, possibly the best preserved castle of this type on the Baltic, and perfectly set against the sea.
