This is directly across the road from the Art Nouveau museum. A small shop, it nonetheless has some great products - our group of friends loved the ceramic tiles!

Fantastic museum which basically is the apartment of important art nouveau artists which is kept intact and turned into a small museum. Unique experience.

We visited the Art Nouveau area and the Museum with a private guide from Raami Travel. You could easily do this yourself but unless you have heavily researched the history, you would be missing out on all of the stories and history behind the various buildings, which really brings the area to life. If you are at all interested in architecture this is a must see.
The rating is for the attraction, not the guide (reviewed separately for 5 stars).

I visited this part of Riga as part of a general walking tour of the city and really glad I did. Wasn’t quite sure what to expect but the design if the buildings exteriors was fantastic. A concentrated area of a few streets so easy to walk round and marvel at the designs. I’m not particularly into architecture but really enjoyed the experience.

I was pleased with our tour leader (Kaspars) and his apparent knowledge of the Art Nouveau period. The 2-hour, 3PM free tour from the Latvian National Opera Centre (look for the guide with the yellow suitcase) was as good as some of the other, paid for, city and 2-3 hour cultural hour tours that I have taken in other European cities and towns. Kaspars' English was excellent and he either knows his stuff or is one of the best con men in Europe.
The walk is not too strenuous and the route taken covers the highlights of Riga's Art Nouveau period.
There were about 20 people on the tour and Kaspars ensured that everyone was grouped together each time there was information to be shared. The different people in the group walked at different speeds and Kaspars was diligent in seeing that the group stuck together.

Almost like a last flourish under Russian rule, Art Nouveau architecture came to Riga in a big way at the start of the 20th century.

The largest number of buildings is concentrated in the area known as the Quiet Centre, sometimes with Art Nouveu mixed with National Romanticism. This is an area to explore and admire the architecture, all the better if you take a guided tour that will also tell you about some of the people who lived here.

We joined the free walking tour at 3pm with Edvards, who was really friendly and knew a lot not just about the Art Nouveau district but all of Riga. The walking tour was very educational and we learned many new things and saw details and buildings we might not have noticed without Edvards. So thank you, Edvards, for everything! And I really recommend this walking tour to anyone who is curious about Art Noveau. It is definitely worth your time!
