It's a vast array of objects from Latvian history . Not the most exciting museum . I found it helpful to use the manuals on display to read about the history and then look around .

SO many different things inside: - of course a lot of household goods - but also things connected to the war - and a lot of things, such as pictures and modeles of ships and navigation equipment. The building is quite big and impressive inside.

It´s an old scool museum, not too interactive but you will get a good overview of the history of Riga. You can spend there 2-3 hours.

I am not the one who goes to every museum, but this museum gave a very interesting glance through the history of Riga and Latvia. And the navigation museum was a very nice bonus, albeit being just a small part of the whole museum.

This Museum, which is housed by Riga Dome Cathedral, has its entrance hidden at the back of this big structure. Originated in 1773 as a private collection of Nikolaus von Himsel ( a Riga doctor), now being one of the oldest museum in Europe.

Detailed and informative displays, nicely organized. The museum has a great layout and there are many pieces of artefacts that catch the Viewers interest. Easy to understand the showcases although most of the information was in English. Didactic and a good learning experience.
