- SteviefullKidderminster, United Kingdom1,663 contributionsBeautiful park even more so with snowWe visited in early December and the snow on the ground added to the already beautiful park. We were fortunate enough to be based at the Grand Poet hotel which overlooks the park and recommend it highly. The park in my opinion is at its best at night with the lights reflecting off the snow and icy river. A great place to stroll around and enjoy the surroundings.Visited December 2022Written 8 February 2023
- chrissieb94Dorset, United Kingdom2,095 contributionsBeautiful, Calming SpaceThe park is on the eastern edge of the Old Town. Winding through it is the Pilsetas Canal and together they make a beautiful, calming space in the city centre. There are numerous statues and art creations to be found. The gardens are beautifully maintained as are the bridges across the canal.Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 September 2023

Beautiful park on the edge of Old City Riga, with walking paths along the canal (and meandering through the park), benches, grassy areas, a playground (complete with a ladder and slide for really tiny tots, a plus!), and of course the lovely canal.

Great park in the middle of the city next to the Freedom Monument. Several sculptures scattered around the park either done by local artists or with local meaning.

The creation of the park dates back to the middle of the XIX century. It was then, after the demolition of the fortress ramparts, the territory was landscaped around the city canal. And this place has turned into an amazing recreation area. In the park you can see a large collection of various plants. The park is decorated with sculptures that are quite traditional for Latvian art. Near the hill there is a cafe where you can enjoy coffee and good pastries. I recommend it!

This park is really beautiful. It seemed so clean and full of life. The river down the middle made everything seem perfect.

Canals run throughout the length of the park and if you take the canal boat ride you can see it along the shore. Otherwise, care out some time to walk in the evening, the morning, etc to see the fountains, the ice cream kiosk, the Art Nouveau theater and plenty of benches. Lovely area and safe.

Bastejkalna Park in Autumn is, quite simply, the epitome of a Latvian Elysium. Orange, yellow, red—these colours will surround you as the leaves continue to fall from the trees.
The canal that flows through the park accentuates the beauty of the area, while Bastion Hill beckons a climb up its meandering path to the top, one of the most romantic spots in Riga.
