War Museum

The history of Latvia and the struggle for independence is well presented. War paraphernalia is displayed and labelled in several languages. Nice assortment of guns and swords!

Free to enter but you have to leave your coats and bags in a locker by the door. Lots of interesting exhibits but pretty hard to follow as it is all, naturally in Latvian. There were a few English translation cards scattered about which helped. Quite a few of the exhibition rooms were shut on the day we visited.

The exhibits were well laid out on various floors with lots to look at, although there was very little in way of English translations. There were notebooks which could be read alongside the exhibits but they were not as clear as they could have been. It did , however give you a good idea about life in the past.

My other half and his friend visited here, they were in for quite a long time. They went on about it for a few hours after, different things they saw and comparing with British war museums

I went to the museum with my husband because we were interested to learn about the history of the Latvia. I was surprised to learn that the exhibits were not translated to English. Instead we had to carry a notebook in each room and tried to follow the instructions. it was not easy... But what troubled me the most was... More

The good points we found were, it was a donation only to enter, very well laid out and in a beautiful building. Also a free of charge place to store your coats. The only bad point was, there were no english descriptions on anything. Very confusing to follow booklets in each room but not everything in the room explained in... More

I was here dozen of times. There is free entrance so you can visit it almost every day if you want. All my friends from abroad have visited it with me. Not as big museum as i would wish it be but you can see different time periods, weapons of these periods e.t.c. Big part is dedicated about WWI and... More

The Latvian War Museum is located in the Old Town and is very easy to get to. Good collection of artefacts and models with some video. Admission is free, you are encouraged to store you coat in the free lockers. May be my misunderstanding, but was not made to feel welcome as the curators followed about 4 foot behind me... More
