These monuments are very all very similar but the doesn’t detract from the magnificence of this monument especially with the changing of the guard and the flowers around the base all helped by the upcoming Latvian Independence Day celebrations

Apart from crows and tourists today a childrens choir rehearsed for Latvia's centenary while being filmed by a drone.The boys voices were beautiful but the crows were not impressed.
Not much to say really but it's a beautiful monument just outside the old town. We caught the changing of the guards by chance. There'a nice little park nearby and the temporarily rehoused Occupation Museum is close by.
Was here right before the 100th independence celebration. There were tons of flowers laid around the base of the monument, along with nightly candle vigils. During the day, Soldiers in formal uniforms were guarding the monument. It was an impressive experience.
It's a big monument, somewhere between Old Town and the rest of Riga, it can be seen from far away. Nice for some pictures but also a good way to remember the struggle for freedom of the Latvians. In the morning there are also 2...More
Just outside the old town this monument is surrounded by landscaped areas around the canal. It is guarded by two soldiers and if you time your visit you can see the small ceremony of the changing of the guard.
