Interesting place, lots of cool old stuff, many spots to take pics outside and inside. Once a year you can go there for free, when it’s museum night in Latvia

Interesting history of railways inside in an interactive museum, mainly for children inside. Larger locomotives outside. Good value at 2 euros 50 each.

The yard of trains and wagons is an eye opener. One slowly wanders amongst the trains and wagons of yesteryear and marvels at the iron and steel and wood constructions, the rough and ready welds, nuts and bolts that hold these Goliath's together. Once upon...More

Sadly we did not get to view the exhibit. We arrived to open gates, with a sign directing us to buy tickets. We were greeted by a rude woman who opened the door, simply said "10 am tomorrow", and slammed the door in our faces....More

A museum with a sense of fun. You can wander around outside and climb up on the odd train footplate. This is nice for kids and big kids. Inside there is a history of local steam engines with a huge trainset which is available to...More

If you have a couple of hours to spare in Riga, cross the bridge and head past the ultra modern national library to the Dzelzcela museum. If you're a train buff you'll enjoy every exhibit - from the weird Russian failures to the local, lovingly...More

Railway enthusiasts and children will enjoy the museum but as yet there is much unfilled space. The existing exhibits were interesting but it needs more of them and perhaps a cafe.

Pretty good value for the 2.50 entrance fee. Two rooms, one 'special exhibition' about train stations which was quite interesting and they've made an effort to make it interactive. Second room less good, a rather disconnected history of steam engines then some stuff on signals....More

We are big fans of railways, so how to pass by such a great place in Riga? Recommended for all who is interested in railways - but why to review everything right here? Visit yourselves, and you will want to come back, and back, and...More
