Most interesting, minimal restoration of the cathedral, nicely done. Impressive ruins. To find out more on the cathedral visit next to the ruins the museum of the university. Historical exhibition, well done, even for kids. The surrounding park on the hill overlooks the town. Ruins are illuminated at night.

The cathedral has partly been in ruins since the reformation, although one part was restored/reformed and is now used as the university museum. But the ruined part is particularly impressive, as it gives an indication of the enormity of the original structure. There is currently an audio art installation in place which was very effective.

Magical and fantastic place. With great atmosphere and rich history. Better to see in spring and summer time. Nice garden.

These are the ruins of an other cathedral. The part that is still intact houses the University of Tartu Museum. which is definitely worth a visit, but the ruined part is not to be forgotten! It is so impressive to just walk through and imagine which it might have once looked like, to imagine these stones are so old and yet they still stand... mostly. Very impressive.

Great ruins, possibility to explore the upper floors, which is quite a good experience (it's like a little maze in the air).

After the museum we strolled through the ruins and walked up the about 100 stairs to the top of the towers. A decor for a Harry Potter movie!

After climbing Toome Hill to visit the Old Observatory, we decided to explore this cathedral ruins.
It's a huge structure of bricks with tall interior arches and even has a tower to climb for a small fee. Inside the university maintained museum are 2 flat tombstones like those that covered the churches nave. Well worth visiting and it's an easy walk down to the Town Hall.

The cathedral is now in ruins, but you can see how grand it must have been. Part of it has been reconstructed and now houses the University Library.

Great, impressive and well preserved ruins of Baltic brick gothic mediaeval cathedral. Structure is positioned on the top of the hill and overlooking Old Tartu. Gothic arches still stands high. Altar part of the basilika is reconstructed and turned into Museum of University of Tartu. With park and some other historical buildings around this place is great to wandering around.
