From a tourist point of view it’s not something special or spectacular: a yellow church, a crucifix, some ordinary buildings surrounding a not very big open space.
Respect for the Square meaning for locals, but as a tourist you have no regrets missing it.
But if you are walking all around the Old City, for sure one of your exit will be in Freedom Square.

This is a historically significant square which symbolises the struggle of the Estonian people. For the tourists it's an okay place but a part of the old town walk. There is a large cross and the square is big too. Many eateries around. Well decorated and lighted.

Just a quick visit to see Freedom Square and where some of the protests, etc., took place. My visit to Estonia was fantastic!

This is one of those places you should see but when you do you realise it's less of an experience and more of passing through. It's a large area and lit up at night so nicer in the evening but missing a wow becasue don't really know what happened here.

We just so happened to be here on the 14th of June when some kind of commemorative event was happening and the whole square was full of balloons that were being released.

The Freedom Square hosts the monument that symbolises Estonia’s spirit of perseverance and freedom. It is also 1 of the entrance into the Old Town, where special concerts are held.

We visited freedom square while the Ironman was taking place so the whole area was taken up by tent and and finish line. It is a purpose built park for the eatonians to commemorate the mre freedom from the Soviet Union.

There's nothing to see apart from the monument, you can definitely skip it and focus on other parts of the old town and the whole city.

The square at one edge of the Old Town seems to be a popular place for people to gather. There is a huge cross towering over the square and this commemorates the struggle for the people of Estonia to gain independence between 1918 & 1920.
