Masters Yard
About
This quiet courtyard in the Old Town is a little piece of Tallinn as it was centuries ago when people appreciated the work of craftsmen, who put their heart and soul into everything they made. You can still see the medieval architecture and enjoy the cosy atmosphere. There are different arts and crafts workshops, guest rooms for accommodations and the famous café Chocolaterie in the yard.

The small shops in the yard with a cafeteria in the middle concentrate each on their chosen materials. Keramikakoda has interesting figures and artefacts in ceramics, they also hold lessons for enthusiastic beginners. Both clothes and home decoration textiles in bright colours are sold at Parem Pool - the Right Side. It is customary in Tallinn to ask for permission to take a photo, the Chinese used to come and copy these unique models to be massproduced cheaply.

This hidden corner is a landscape for art, crafts and chocolate! There are several shops where the artisans are selling their stuff. My favorite is the ceramic shop where you will find the most unusual cups and decorative objects!

There's a few nice shops along here, but nothing you wouldn't find anywhere else in the old town. Don't try and actively find this place but do pop in if you happen to be passing.

On the right hand side is a place called Pierre Chocolaterie. We have come in for a hot chocololate. It has some French decadent 20's theme going on ( That may read like i know what i am talking about). It is all low light and dark fabrics. Lovely atmospheric place and the hot chocolate is superb. Mine is plain and nice enough, but my wife has chille and ginger added and it nearly blows your head off!!!. 4 euros each and worth every euro

It looks like an alley to someone's house. Duck in. It's really a passage to a back courtyard that hosts a few craft shops. It's little quieter and less touristy than other souvenir shops and worth a stop.

This courtyard is great to stop by and have a drink, as it is off the beaten path and is very calm... away from the crowds and over-abundance of the rest of Old Town.

If you need to take a breath, this is the place to go to !

I loved this small little courtyard with tiny craft shops, some underground. You have to know where to find it. We visited three shops and came away with lovely gifts from each. The shopkeepers were all friendly and happy to explain about the items in their shop. Who made them and from what. All seemed to be made in the shop or in Estonia. It was my favourite part of Tallinn.
