Firstly, the street itself is gorgeous and feels very medieval. Secondly, its worth going to each of the artisan workshops to see them in action. There's leather cutters making bags, boxes and books; stained glass window makers, glass blowers, linen-makers, etc. this is a great place to get a real Estonian souvenir versus the mass manufactured items sold everywhere else. There's also a beautiful guild of leather notebook makers on Pikk (long street).
I have visited many countries where there are just global chain shops. Independent craftsman need to be supported and treasured because local arts are dying out in so many special places.

St Catherine’s Passage is only a short stroll from the Town Hall Square and is probably the most picturesque of the lanes in Tallinn Old Town. The buildings are very old; some of them date back to the 15th century and most are in excellent condition, the archways are most impressive.
In the passage are a couple of restaurants and several artisan workshops, each housed in the ancient rooms. The craft shops include jewellery, clothing, glassware and ceramics. The potter’s shop is particularly good with a wide range of products showing artistic skill.
Even if there was nothing to see other than the buildings themselves, it is worth visiting this passage and it is one of our favourite parts of Tallinn.

This lovely close, walk or lane is home to several artisans’ studios where you can browse and possibly pick up some beautiful pieces. We found some lovely stained glass, blown glass, ceramics, textiles, patchwork quilts, hats, jewelry and wood carvings. Near the end of the lane are the ruins of the Church of St. Catherine of Alexandria and many headstones recovered when the church was restored in the mid-19th century. There is also a nice little Italian restaurant, Controvento, in the center of the lane. This secluded area of Tallinn is worth a visit.

Tallinn is on handicrafts overload. There are many artisans, both real and fake selling every manner of craft. Some of the stuff is hideous and useless. You truly wonder who buys some of this crap. The Katarina lane collects true artisans practicing real arts. If you want to purchase locally made leather, ceramics or glass work--this is the place. There were some affordable paintings and prints in this area as well. It helps that the narrow lane is a lovely walk--quite possibly one of the most atmospheric streets anywhere.

Katariina Kaik or Catherine's Passage houses several traditional craft shops with artisans making everything from textiles, millinery, ironmngery and ceramics. The wooden items are particularly appealling especially from a tactile point of view. The passage also houses several ancient tombstones which are displayed on the passage walls.

Even if you're not in the market for a souvenir from Tallinn, this passageway is worth strolling. Crafts are made on-site in a beautifully preserved series of old buildings and streets. Many of the handicrafts for sale are created using traditional handmade techniques, but are surprisingly well designed and sophisticated. Even non-shoppers will enjoy spending some time here.

This is a small narrow passage, interesting already because of the fact that it is very old, but preserved, on the top of it there are small crafts' and art's shops where you can discover and buy the beautiful work from local artists and craftmen/women. A great part of Tallin!

Tombstones line the walls of this narrow street. This is a photographer's dream. Vendors set up tables in the arches and have the best prices.

You cannot get lost in this Old Town, but it is not easy to find this place. Do it, and this place will remain in memory, as one of the most interesting in Tallinn. This short street, named for the Katariina church, connects Vene and Müürivahe streets, Just enter an Old Town via Viru gates and take a second street right. It is Müürivahe - "Street between walls". First of all, you will see a small market, mostly of hand knitted goods. Go forward and after the market you will see an ark on the left- an entrance to Katariina käik (St. Catherine's Passage). Go and discover this little miracle! Enter interesting shops, look left and right and breathe the air of history. And if it is a time for lunch, enter Controverto, one of the best and my favorite Italian restaurant in town.

Hi, I’ve been arguing with a friend about whether the Doll shop and Museum that’s next door to the Katarina guild is actually part of it or not. Can anyone provide an answer as to whether the doll museum is part of the guild? Thanks!

Hi I've just broken a lovely jug which I bought from the glass blowing shop. Do you have any contact details for them so that I can buy another? It would make my other half very happy!
