Pirita Beach is close to Tallinn and hence popular, especially as it is only 15 minutes by bus,. The beach was clean and well maintained. It has small cubicles every 20-25 yards(metres) in which you can change. The beach backs onto a wood which is popular with cyclists, joggers and roller bladers. The sea is very shallow, even if you walk out 200 yards it is only 2-3 feet deep. By North Sea standards the water was warm, especially at the end of a sunny day. Pirita Beach is a good place to spend the day and Tallinn gives a fantastic drop. There is a good small supermarket (Rimi) in the shopping centre next to Pirita Beach bus stop. Supermarket sells sandwiches, note you are not allowed glass bottles on the beach. Bus is only 90 cents one way from Tallinn town centre to Pirita Beach

Must see not only the Pirita beach but also the ruins of the church which are basically in front of the beach, it is like a 5 min walk. We arrived there using the bus from the center of Tallinn. It was very easy and fast, ticket costs 1.50 for non residents and can be paid with any contact less card like VISA Mastercard on bus (usually the first validating machine in entrance of the bus).

Easily reachable by bus from central Tallinn. Though on a hot day the bus will be packed with beachgoers. In the summer it can attract up to 30,000 visitors a day. It stretches for some 2,5 km facing Tallinn Bay. As you arrive you can walk to your location of choice along a shaded forest / beach promenade. You will not get any privacy on a hot summer day. But we got clean waters and clean sand that made for the building of a few sand castles. The water was shallow and made for some good wading for a small boy. There are changing cabins all along the beach.

Pirita is a truly lovely place, and while I justify keeping on going only to Estonia by the fact that I never usually repeat anything while I'm there, I always go to Pirita at least once each trip.
Pirita gives you your unique opportunity to add a bit of classic beach holiday to a visit to a historic city. It's where the beautiful people spend their time carefully tanning themselves, playing beach volleyball, or generally showing off their femininity / masculinity on the lovely long sandy beach. The water's also surprisingly warm if you are brave enough to venture in, and the bay is sheltered by a long breakwater which has great views of the old town and port from the end. With Tallinn's long daylight hours beach life extends well into the evening!
Refreshment facilities once your their cater for both ends of the market; Velvet cafe bar in the beach house for the top range, and the kiosk on the decking in front of the beach house for the cheaper more traditional end of the market! There's also a bowling alley for... I dunno who for. Why would you go a lovely beach and then stay inside bowling?
Get there by taking the frequent 1A, 1PR, 5, 8, 34A or 38 from the stops underneath the Viru Centre to the "Pirita" stop (less than 15 mins), which is just after the bus crosses the river. Avoid crossing the road by going towards the boat hire place and then under the bridge. There's also slightly less frequent buses back from the far end of the beach if you only want to walk one way!
There is also a walk up the river which starts from the Tallinn side of the bridge; there's a sign with a map of the paths.
If you're just going to walk up the river take the same buses to the stop before Pirita (announced as Rummu on the bus), and there's a sign with a map of the paths that give you a lovely walk along the river, through a forest, and out into meadows that are a popular picnic destination..
Alternatively you you hire a boat from beside the bridge at Pirita and row up the river!

A great beach in the summer, fantastic walking and cycling in the pine forests, a great coastal walk back to Tallinn and a sea wall surrounding the marina that gives amazing views across the Baltic to the Old Town. The TV Tower and Botanic Gardens are also a short bus ride away. Easy access by several very regular buses (1, 8, 34A, 38)

We just spent a few hours here after visiting Kadriog Palace, as hort bus ride away. The abbey ruins are very impressive and only a couple of euros to enter. We walked along harbour lined with fishermen.Lovely view of Tallinn in distance.Can imagine lovely place to visit in warmer months, with watersports available and walks along river.

We were here in September on a cool, windy and drizzly day so unfortunately our review is not the best ! Didn't see the beach and it was a dreary view of grey endless sea.

We have been there end of August and it was a really nice sunny day. The beach is beautiful. It is such a shame that the water is so cold though. this beach deserves a lot more. A few people were actually in the water. I would guess it was about 17-18 degrees Celsius.
We came by bus from Tallinn centre. Uncomplicated. There are some places where you can have something to eat and drink as well. Really nice!

Just outside of Tallinn Old Town, is this beautiful excellently kept sandy beach. With a forest to the rear and the Baltcic sea to the front. Plenty to do on the beach as they have volley ball nets, windsurfing, even a small play area for kids.

If city center is always considered as "the heart of the city", then Pirita is definitely the soul of Tallinn. To all the beach and sea lovers - this is the place for you. One can sit for hours and just stare at the sea. The view is spectacular, because at some point you will be able to enjoy the panoramic view over Tallinn city center. Mesmerizing!
