A great place to visit and a must see in Vilnius. Crazy contrast of greatness and shabbiness. Cool people, great riverside with street art, the paradox of the constitution (in many languages), and statues, just... another world to see and feel.

This is quite a funny place. They were able to take a whole district and turn it into something funny. It is apparently an "independent republic" with its own constitution. I do agree with some of the things they put in the consitution (like the right not to fear. If I'm not scared of something then what can I do? This I agree with).
The streets are really pretty, although quite crowded especially in the afternoon. It also has nice restaraurants.

We really enjoyed our visit, but do your research before you go so you know what to seek out. There are some lovely bakeries, as well as many historical places, and some great street art.
Be aware that quite a lot seemed to be closed in February, and most shops don’t open until at least 11, with many not opening until 12 noon.
It is definitely worth visiting, and you need a good couple of hours here to explore everything.

The district of Uzupis, or is it the Republic of Uzupis? Interesting and very bohemian area close to the centre of Vilnius. Look out for the Constitution on a wall near the square. You can even get your passport stamped in the souvenir shop just over the bridge! A pleasant atmosphere with nice people and the Spunka Bar was very welcoming.

Sweet! This was a nice experience. I loved the idea. I can imagine it being a really nice place in the summer, walk around a bit and enjoy some ice coffee by the river. Uzupis is def a must see in Vilnius

The self-declared Republic of Užupis, is quite a pretty district, particularly where it borders the Vilnia River.

I can’t say that I ever noticed any hint of a ‘Bohemian’ environment for which it’s apparently well known, although there are a few examples of interesting street art here and there.

What I did notice was the awful intersection of streets at the bottom of the Užupis Angel Statue. I wondered if there was any relation to the placement of the Angel and the risk to pedestrians trying to cross the streets there.

Nevertheless, it’s certainly worth a visit.

Nice neighborhood and a must when you are in Vilnius! It is very central anyway. Make sure to check the places with the constitution of Uzupis written in different languages, very amusing. Otherwise it seems that there are many cafes and cozy stores to spend time in.

When you read about this artistic part of the city you get the impression that it is really something to see... but in reality it's not that exciting. What's to see there are the mermaid and the angel statues, and the constitution written in several languages. There are also a few cafes and galleries, but no street performances as one would imagine. If you're on a tight schedule, skip it.

This is an area, where you just have to put on your most comfortable walking shoes, and walk and walk. The very narrow cobblestone streets are charming. Lots of cafes, and some interesting shops. Very Bohemian and laissez-faire atmosphere. In the 16th century, the district's inhabitants were mostly Jewish. Now, many artists live in this small 148 acre area. They have their own flag, which is a palm (hand) emblem.

Unfortunately, we had heavy rain the day we were there, so we had to make our tour in the car. but we drove around for about 40 minutes taking it all in. Next time we go, we definitely want to come and walk here.

We made our way to Uzupis and browsed around for an hour or so during a trip last June. The best part of this side trip was the bridge that crossed the river into Uzupis district. It was covered with padlocks declaring lovers eternal commitments to each other, it was actually rather interesting.

The rest of the Uzupis district was interesting, somewhat Bohemian but somewhat of a run-down appearance. It provided an interesting alternative to the classical style of the city centre thus makes a good 1 hour visit if you've a few days in Vilnius.
