I have read the reviews from past visits and I can understand their reviews, some were not kind. I love this Gallery. It is a perfect composite of our art. Having lived here for a few years, after retirement from the US, I find our National Gallery refreshing and pertinent. Our incredible art is on display, and I applaud their efforts at reconstrucrion and re-stocking the Gallery to showcsse our art. I go often, once or twice a week, and enjoy the space. Wonderful job of showcasing all of our art forms.

Surely the best stop we had on our trip to Bratislava, half of the rooms were under renovation but to make up for that you only pay half the ticket, the rooms tho that were opened they were really beautiful and with different master pieces, the staff was really helpful and always happy to give you information.

After we bought the tickets the personal told us that it’s not possible to enter the exposition with baby stroller. I spent the time with 3 months old baby on the floors:-(

I am of two minds about this place. The recent additions to the gallery building are an architectural marvel - a really wonderful museum space. The collection, on the other hand, is quite modest. The room dedicated to the development of modern art in Slovakia is well organized and gives you a clear sense of how modern art in the country evolved, but the art itself is, for the most part, so-so.

The exhibitions are e quite small, featuring various Slovak artists, but it gives you a good flavour of Slovak art movements and the write up and presentation is great. There's a really nice library as well and professor hamster is brilliant - originally designed as a tool to help teach kids about art history and get them engaging, it's also terribly entertaining for adults as well.

Although only a section of the museum is open because of extensive renovations and building, it is a lovely place to visit while in Bratislava. Entrance is free and has a warm and friendly feel to it. Main exhibits currently are on 19th Central European Impressionists and 20th century works by a Slovak artist, Weisz-Kubincan. Both exhibits were thoughtfully presented and introduced me to artists I was heretofore not knowledgeable about. Highly recommend.

Slovak National Gallery ( Slovenska Narodna Galeria ) is a superb exhibition centre, bookshop and cafe ,it's located in a really nice building that looks amazing, reminded me so much about the architecture I saw in Vienna.
We were here admiring the Ludovit Stur Monument and this building is directly across the road from the monument.
Easy to locate on a street called Riecna in an area just off the Old Town.
Well worth checking out.

I visited on a Sunday and it was really quiet which made for a pleasant visit. I was there during the excellent Filla Fulla exhibit. Nice layout, free entry and an excellent bookshop make this a worthwhile visit.
