We had a great 8-day experience with Best Slovakia Tours, combining sightseeing and family heritage visits. Peter and Jane helped us to plan a terrific itinerary including hikes in the Tatras, visits to castles and other historical sites, a wine tasting and a diverse mix of hotels and restaurants. They also helped us to dig deeper into our family ancestry by organizing visits with current family members as well as people (several pastors, a museum curator, a mill owner and even a current mayor!) that could provide context about the history and culture of our family's ancestral villages. Peter was a great driver and guide throughout the trip, and served as an invaluable translator when we were meeting with family and the others we met in the ancestral villages. Peter and Jane were also kind enough to host us for a lovely dinner at their home on our last evening. Overall, it was a very memorable trip which exceeded our expectations in every way. Very highly recommended!

This review is of a ten-day, private tour for four seniors in September 2024. We were returning to Slovakia after five years.
From Bratislavia to the “silver town” of Banska Stiavnica and on to Kremnica, Kosice, and Kezmarok, we visited a microbrewery, tasted the lovely Tokaj wine, and saw the wooden church in Kezmarok. We also visited the UNESCO village of Vlkolinec, rafted on the Dunojec River in the National Park Pieniny, and visited the open-air museum of Orava village. My personal favorites were the high Tatra mountains and our fabulous guide, Martin Schwarz. He was very knowledgeable about his country, spoke fluent English, and was attuned to our every whim and wish. He even invited us to his home for our final dinner with his lovely wife and three children.
This was a twice in a lifetime trip, and I can’t wait to return to beautiful Slovakia to tour again with Martin and Best Slovakian Tours.

I cannot say enough positive things about Best Slovakia Tours and the beautiful country of Slovakia. My mom and I did the Heritage Tour in the fall and we had an absolutely wonderful experience. Our guide (and owner) Peter was so knowledgable, friendly and fun. He made sure that everyone in our tour group felt included and was engaged. He tailored activities based on the wants of the group and we coudn't have asked for a better guide. We saw so many areas, monuments, citites, landmarks and interesting places that without a local guide, we would not have known to/been able to experience. Janka (Jane) was so responsive in the planning process and answered any and all questions that we had. Our driver, Roman, was so professional and skilled in navigating the winding back roads in the Tatra Mountains. Overall, I would absolutely recommend Best Slovakia Tours for any of your tour needs, I would love to book another trip with them to another of the avialable locations!

Dear Sara, thanks so much for your kind words about our annual September's Slovakia Heritage Tour. This 10 day tour has for us a special meaning as it has been designed by our US partner Judith Bennett as her project for bringing Slovak-Americans to their ancestors homeland Slovakia.
Since 2011, we have every September a small group of US travelers.

I'd been looking for a tour that would encompass both Slovakia & Czechia. I found this tour. Since we'd never done a private tour before, we had some trepidation. Peter was very clear in his communications and thus we booked.
Peter toured us around Bratislava showing us beautiful Old Town and filling us in on history. We wanted to do a 2-hour Communist Tour (thru a different company) but they were booked for our time in Bratislava. Peter contacted these folks and was able to arrange the tour for us. Great customer service. After two days in Bratislava, it was time to move on with our guide for the rest of the tour Martin.
Martin was great. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the areas we visited. In addition, he was an informed conversationalist, attentive to our needs and very courteous.
We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 week jaunt with Best Slovakia Tours. Both Slovakia and Czechia are beautiful countries, yet different in scenery and "feel". So impressed with Martin and Peter, we are contemplating a second journey with them that would bring us to Slovenia. I highly recommend them!

Thank you Peter & Jane for organizing our 15 days trip in Slovakia & Czech. The itinerary was well detailed information . The accommodation, transfers and guide was excellent. We really have a Wonderful experience there. Your company is so professional and well managed, all communication is done promptly and clear.
Zvono is a great guide-driver with great knowledge, very punctual , very helpful , flexible and willing to take us to visit our places of interest more than we planned to see.

Peter customized this amazing family tour of the best slovakian castles and family home sites for us over several months of planning. Correspondence and arrangements were always most prompt and accomodating to make sure this was the Slovakian trip of a lifetime. For this 7 day tour, we were most fortunate to have Martin as our tour guide - without question the best tour guide I have ever had with excellent command of English language, historical and cultural knowledge base, and perhaps best of all, terrific sense of humor! Food and lodging were excellent and we would be hard pressed to pick a "best day" or "best castle" as all days/visits were outstanding! We definitely plan to use this tour group again for possible future trips to Greece, Croatia, possibly Italy and Turkey. I can't give them a high enough recommendation!

We had a fabulous day tour of Bratislava with Devin Castle with Patrick.
Patrick was excellent, highly informative and educational. He showed us so many memorable sites if this very charming city of Bratislava. Key highlights included the site of the iron curtain, the blue church and Bratislava castle, among many others.
We highly recommend Best Slovakia Tours. An outstanding tour company.

Thank you Peter and Jane for making my 78 year old husband, Alan, his brother, and our son Eric have the best possible vacation. Slavo, their tour guide, became a friend and made sure they visited all the beautiful sites of Slovakia and their ancestral villages. They learned a lot about the culture of their ancestors. He even took them to his mother's home for a traditional Slovak dinner. Their experience will always be remembered. Thank you again for making my husband's wish so wonderful. Letti Mikula

Peter … I can’t thank you enough for providing my sister and me with such an awesome tour of beautiful Slovakia. Besides my Wedding day, and the birth of my daughter, it has been one of the greatest experiences of my life. I now have a direct personal connection with my ancestry, its culture, its history, and most importantly, my Father. I can now say I’ve walked on the same soil that my Dad walked on for the first 15 years of his life. You are a treasure trove of historical information, and an absolutely wonderful tour guide and person. The itinerary you set out for us was outstanding! My sister has had numerous health issues over the past couple of years, and unfortunately the effects of those issues limited her stamina to walk. I want to thank you for being so kind, and so patient with her. Additionally, thanks so much for all the work you did to arrange for our family reunion in Casta. It was the highlight of our trip. Our time together was brief, but Doreen and I both consider you as a real friend. I will recommend you, and Best Slovakia Tours every chance I get. Who knows, we may meet up with you again in the future.

Peter took my dear friend and I on a private tour of her family's home town in Slovakia. We were able to find the homes where they lived, as well as the church they attended and the cemetery where they were buried. We met the parish priest and found my friend's family geneology in his church records. We met and had traditional Slovakian drinks and converstions with some local residents, who knew my friend's family. We also visited many sites in Slovakia. We then took a day tour of Kosice, having a delicious authentic Slovakian dinner. After spending the night in Kosice, we made our way to Budapest. Peter spent an entire day showing us the best places in Budapest. That night he took us to a wonderful restaurant, where I had hungarian goulash, which was awesome. Finally, Peter took us to the dock where our Viking river tour ship was waiting. Peter is very knowledgeable and patiently answered all our questions. He even attempted to have me pronounce Kosice properly.. alas to no avail. I very highly recommend Best Slovakia Tours, and specifically Peter. I thoroughly enjoyed our time with him.

Contact Best Slovakia Tours for information. You can also do this by boat from Bratislava. There is an office by the fiver to book such trips.

Hi, thank you very much for asking about beautiful medieval town Banska Stiavnica.
Normally, we start all day trips from Bratislava. But, it is possible to come and pick you up from Budapest (e.g. @9am), then drive to Banska Stiavnica, make a day trip and drive you back to Budapest. Our driver-guide would then return back to Bratislava.
