Address
Neighbourhood: District VII / Jewish Quarter
District VII is the very heart of Budapest and houses the city’s Jewish Quarter. Its streets are lively and colorful, its buildings narrate different histories in an assortment of architectural styles, and its cafes and bars are frequented and loved by the enthusiastic crowds. Grand and magnificent, the striking star of the district is the Great Synagogue, the largest in Europe and one of the biggest in the world. Distinctly Moorish in style, crowned by the twin onion shaped domes, the Synagogue is the very emblem of District VII and one of the main attractions in the capital.

Such a cool place! Just go there for a pint - you won’t regret it. So much character and life in the spirit of the place, we really loved it

My boyfriend and I visited the Szimpla Kert bar one night to check it out. He doesn’t drink anymore, so hanging out at bars isn’t typical for us on vacation, but we both really enjoyed this one! We walked through all the various rooms, it seems like kind of a labyrinth at times, with a new surprise around every corner. Such awesome décor and vibe. It I lived in Budapest, I could see myself visiting this bar often with friends. I also felt very welcome here as a tourist, all of the staff were very nice.

A bar unlike anything I’ve experienced. Very quirky in the best way. Also a big venue with lots of different rooms. However, didn’t enjoy my pint very much as they’d ran out of the one I’d want to order

The toilets completely ruined this place for me. I came here 6 years ago and loved it so much that I came back on my second visit to Budapest. On arrival I was desperate for the toilet. Unfortunately the toilets were unusable due to the womens toilet floor being covered in feaces! All of the cubicles were unusable as every single one was filthy. I have never witnessed anything like it in my 35 years of using public toilets. My husband said the mens toilets were awful with urine streaming out of every inch of the room. Such a shame as this place is so cool! I genuinely love the Szimpla Kert, it’s a truly unique experience but please sort out your toilets!!

We were there from 4pm to 6pm, the atmosphere was amazing, I can only imagine what's it like later in the night. I'd love it to return. I recomand!

The toilets are metal and shallow and your urine stream hits a few inches from where it exits and splashes back at you. One sink was full of water so it was unusable and one toilet was full of toilet paper.
Drinks very overpriced. Why do hipsters have to “ruin” everything. Reminded me of cool east Berlin bars but, again, way overpriced.

Probably the best run bar in Budapest. We visited in the afternoon when the markets were open. Warning that you will have to queue to get in in the late evening as the place turns into a night club. Well worth a visit. Value wise very good. Drinks price the same as anywhere else despite its popularity.

Very touristy and overpriced. Nice surroundings and well decorated but there are other better ruin bars throughout the city

Overcrowded spot with terrible service. Took us about 45 mins to an hour to buy a drink and half the time the servers would just disappear. We got fed up and ended up leaving to a few of the bars on the same street.

It's really nice. No-one can argue with that: maybe a dozen bars hidden in different corners of that very colourful backyard. Take some time to explore the whole place before you settle down somwhere. In a way it's very much the kind of atmosphere Berlin had twenty years ago and which could still be enjoyed in Kyïv last year.
But: it's not cheap, it gets quite packed and if you get there after 20:00 you'll probably have to queue to get in. Add a bit of arrogance from some of the staff... giving you a taste of Paris too! Three in one!
