After suffering serious damages during the second world war, the Vigadó, the most attractive concert hall in Budapest was rebuilt and opened in 2014. It’s a jewel on the Pest side of the Danube Promenade. The restored frescoes, and statues, the impressive romantic main staircase, the beautiful assembly hall, the exhibitions, .and the roof terrace with its fantastic view, all... More

We bought a ticket which enabled us to visit the 3 art exhibitions running at the moment, and wander round the beautiful building, including the terrace which had lovely views across to Buda. The building has amazing interiors, and the exhibitions were varied and interesting.

I have MS and access was good with lifts to the exhibit halls and to the panoramic view across the Danube from the rooftop. Lovely building, in excellent condition, interesting exhibits and helpful staff.

Located in Vigadó square, this is a lovely concert hall to look at from the outside (don't miss the beautiful fountain in front of the hall), but the inside looks as if it need a lot of TLC to fit the beautiful exteriors.

I toured Vigado with a Violin Tours which was great (the guide provided lots of information), but If you have seen Parliament, The Opera house, St Stephens, its more of the same....fancy interiors, Hapsburg history. By itself it's gorgeous, but after a week of seeing these types of places I realized I could have done something else with my time.

Attended a great concert, too bad the event was placed at Vigado - the building has been beautifully renovated, but in the concert hall raws are not labelled properly, air condition is so strong (its winter outside) instead of heating and the cloakroom is managed catastrophic - half an hour after the show ppl are still queuing (near the entrance... We had determined to go here when we visited Budapest in 2014 but illness prevented that. This time we went as our first visit and were not disappointed. A most beautiful building lovingly and expertly restored. There were so many pretty and attractive features we did not know where to look. The guide was excellent. Go!

Staying in District V / Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
District V / Inner City
Discover the Inner City along the banks of the Danube, with its fashionable shops and iconic buildings. The Inner-City Parish Church and St. Stephen’s Basilica stand out as two of the finest examples of architecture in the area. If you are still hunting for more historical treats, then the ruins of the medieval city walls on Kecskeméti Utca are a must-visit while the Soviet War Memorial is also worthy of attention and relevant to Hungary’s more recent history. If shopping is on your itinerary, then be prepared: the market squares in this area are an absolute delight, particularly during the Christmas period, but even throughout the year you’ll find the latest trends in the shops on Vaci Utca.
