Good ride, bad queue management

The queue was somewhat chaotic - however the ride was great and the trip excellent value. On a cold day it is definitely the easiest way to get to Buda Castle.

Having travelled on many other Funicular Rail systems including the world renowned Katoomba in the Blue Mountains and many throughout the British Isles, Buda Hill would give most of them a run for their money. Only Katoomba would beat it on the views from the cars. The views from Buda are really special with the Chain Bridge and Danube providing... More

The only reason I am glad I did this was to tell everyone else on TripAdvisor that it is a COMPLETE RIP OFF and SKIP IT!! It's over 1600 HUF ($5+ USD) per person for a trip that takes less than 30 seconds. I asked the cashier if there was an elevator or escalator to get down (there are both,... More

I think must do if in Budapest. Easiest and fastest way up the Buda Hill. Gives amazing view of the city after reaching the top as well as on the way. Getting a pre booked ticket helps avoiding the long queues during peak season.

Unless you are overly fond of walking up a reasonably steep hill the funicular is the best way to get to the top Castle Hill. There is a small fee but it is worth it to enjoy the few minutes ride in a 19th century cable car and to enjoy the spectacular views as you ascend. It can get busy... More

We took the short ride down to the river. Don't. Walk down, there are many walks you can take. 4 euros for a short ride with limited views (the best view is from the first cabin - going down).

It is nice drive if you like funicular or if you traveling with children. Our kids were very excited about the ride (4 and 9 year old). The ticket price is high for that short ride but view on the top is great. Take the one way ticket, the way down is a short walk. If you come at 11... More

Staying in District I / Buda

Neighbourhood Profile
District I / Buda
The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.
