Avoid the weekends and choose a sunny day to enjoy this pool. It needs a touch of maintenance but you get to hang with the Maygar and not the tourists who crowd Gellert. It is a beautiful trip to the Island and if you rent a bike you can make a day of it. Very basic, changing rooms and sunshine,... More

This is an open "beach, with several possibilities to swim and enjoy a nice summer day. Its surrounding is beautiful, it is on the Margaret Island in the middle of the Danube river.

Palatinus is an outdoor only thermal bath and swimming pool complex on Margaret Island and as such it is only open from May to September. It has been there in for a long time with its tall shady trees for the joy of both local people and tourists. It has quiet warm thermal bath to soak your painful joints, a... More

No place for a blanket. Lots of people of all kind during the Summer. Thieves and dirty people included. Not enough lockers and dressing rooms.

When its hot, and you don't want to steam in the spa's and thermal baths of Budapest, which there are plenty of, you want to cool down and find a place to sunbath and be steps away from many water activities. This is the place you need to visit. Slides, wave pool (industrial!), swirl pool and more. They have a... More

I had a lovely trip to Palatinus Strand. The surrounding areas were green and the service at the langos cafe was quick and friendly. I would highly recommend Palatinus on a warm, sunny day!

This strand has an excellent baby pool and also many larger pools with slides for older kids. But the wave pool can be very crowded. Personally, I love the thermal pool in the back! Make sure to try Langos here!

Hungary have a lot of outdoor swimming pools, or lidos open during the hot weather. The Palatinus is quiet big, and they do improve in the last years. The pools get some different spa extras, fountains in the swimming pools, etc. For the adult price you can also use the sauna, outdoor gym equipment's, and the lockers around the pools,... More

Really good value. 2 thermal baths, wave pool, swimming pool, small water park. Better value than Szechenyi.

Staying in Margaret Island

Neighbourhood Profile
Margaret Island
For Budapest, this island between the banks of the Danube represents a green oasis, especially during summer when its emerald spaces are much enjoyed by both locals and tourists. The gardens here are very picturesque; the flowers in full bloom give the landscape a variety of hues; the fountains add an air of freshness, making walks peaceful, joyful and romantic. A leisurely stroll will uncover a variety of sites, even the ruins of a medieval Franciscan church and convent are still visible.
