Found out about this out-of-the-way attraction in a magazine in our hotel lobby. I got the location and direction from the website and we had no problem getting there - take the blue subway to the end of the line; take the 30 or 30A bus to the stop they mention, then walk 2 blocks east. We wrote down the... More

Dead steam locos parked around a (working) turntable which I assume was once a roundhouse. Another roundhouse with (midweek) two working locos inside. The roundhouse has over a dozen tracks but most were inaccessible, not sure if they hold locos which may be visible at weekends. A good selection of early diesels and a few electric locos but these are... More

The museum is a little far from the city centre but it is warto visiting, especially if you travel with kids. They will love the tours on minature trains, which amazingly are run by tiny steam locomotives. Museum has a large collection of locomotives, which you can enter freely. There is also something for car lovers - classic GAZ Czayka,... More

Not easy to find this since not well signposted and it took me 3 attempts to get there. Had mixed feelings about this since I went mid week and since been led to believe it is only partially open then; i.e. the exhibition halls were closed which was very annoying. However the steam trains on the turntables were great and... More

You don't have to be a rail buff to enjoy it here, although if you are, it must be heaven. It is huge and you can wander pretty freely or take the model train if it's running. There is plenty to climb on and explore. Great on a sunny day. Most of the information is only in Hungarian. If you... More

In a quiet semi-residential part of Budapest we found this excellent open-air museum. My kids (3 and 8) loved it - friendly staff and loads of things to see and touch and try out. Im not much of a train geek myself but still found it very interesting to stroll around the train yard and see the historical locomotives and... More

A good collection of Hungarian trains and rolling stock, both Steam, Diesel & Electric, most in good condition, lots to see & do, probably a 1/2 day attraction, especially if you enjoy rail museums.

Even anybody can learn a lot about railways, if you visit this open-air museum. There are a lot of old trains, kids can even conduct a train, tehre are little trains too to ride on - it is fun and good time to spend.

Great to see decommissioned, communist era and older steam locomotives and carriages, all preserved with a great deal of care and attention. Climb on board and transport yourself back to a simpler time. Really enjoyed this unexpected museum just outside Budapest.

It's a large museum and on my visit the main shed was given over to a model railway show. A lot of steam locos but little post steam (I suspect it's still running). The displays are good but I could not find a gift shop or guidebook and little accommodation for foreigners in the explanations. Nothing by way of graphic... More
