The building is good and well restored. But we lost our bearings one night and several people including two information kiosks where our hotel was - we knew it was only 200 yards. Nobody wanted to know or help , because we weren't asking about trains.

We travelled from Prague, stopped off in Bratislava and ended our train trip in Budapest. The Keleti station is outdated and decrepit. It pales in comparison to Pragues clean modern station. Even Bratislava was in much better shape. I am glad we did not have to spend time waiting for a departure here.

OBB will sell you tickets online from Budapest to Vienna.... But they don't tell you that there is NO WAY to get the tickets you bought. Get on the train and the attendant ask for a Credit Card because you are paying 50 Euros per ticket.

The whole area around Keleti station is in a need for renovation works, which are already in progress on couple of locations. However, the station itself is still not under renovations, and it needs it to be back in its full glory.

While on a short break to Budapest we arranged a day trip to Vienna from Keleti station. The historic main façade of Keleti features two statues depicting James Watt and George Stephenson and the station faces out on to a large recently redeveloped pedestrian plaza where there is easy access to the Metro lines 2 and 4. Inside the station... More

Another member of our party agreed with a cab driver on the platform for our cab ride. I later found out that the distance was only 12 blocks from the station. He grossly overpaid. Find out ahead of time how far your hotel its and be prepared to negotiate. I suspect it is better to go to the cab line... More

KELETI RAILWAY STATION is an historical old train station that serves Budapest. From afar the station looks superb but when your up close you see that the station is in dire need of a facelift. The facade is uninviting with a sort of faded elegance. This station could be so much more and with a little investment could be brought... More

Keleti train station is one of the main train stations in Budapest. There is also an associated metro transfer station on the M2 and M4 lines. The building is huge but in need of a facelift. In front of the station, there is an impressive statue of Gabor Baross, the Hungarian statesman and main proponent of Hungarian railways at the... More

Trains to outside of Hungary leave from this station. It is advisable to reach the station an hour before the scheduled departure of the train so as to locate the train at the correct platform. The giant scree at the entrance shows all the trains, however the respective platform numbers are shown only 30 mins before the departure. Also platforms... More
