Baroque architecture

Every time when I am abroad I'd like to visit a church to see the architecture. This church on a big square is simply beautiful, not open on Mondays.

My primary purpose in going to St Anna's was to attend Sunday mass, so it wasn't a tourist visit, simply the nearest RC church to where my cruise ship was moored. I have no Hungarian so following the service was challenging, but there was a magnificent organ and the music was very good.

I have been there for an organ concert. It is a very small church, finely and intensely decorated. The exterior is not so "heavy", but inside it is all a blooming of statues and decorations, in marble, wood and stucco.

This is a very pretty, twin steepled church with an elaborate altar and frescoed ceilings. It is on the Buda side of the Danube River just north of the Chain Bridge, across from Parliament and just below the Matthias Church.

Church of St. Anne is located on Batthyany ter across the Danube from the Parliament buildings. Even though the square is easily accessible from the Pest side because of its transportation hub for trams, buses, and the Metro, the Church of St. Anne seems isolated from other tourist attractions. Our river cruise ship (Scenic) was docked nearby so I thought... More

I'm not clear whether this church is generally open to the public or not. When we visited, you could go in the front door and the just look at the inside through the next set of glass doors. What we could see looked good but it was not worth going to visit just for that so check on opening hours... More

In a city that is not shy of splendid looking churches THE CHURCH OF ST ANNA ( SZENT ANNA TEMPLOM ) is a fabulous looking twin towered church located near the amazing PARLIAMENT BUILDING. We were enjoying the site's around this area using the very handy tram number 2 and this church look's superb, the 2 towers and pristine facade... More

This splendid church can be recognized by the the twin towers that are topped by elegant Baroque spires. I found this church to be very serene and tranquil. The interior is intricately decorated. Everything from the magnificently painted ceiling, to the gilded pulpit, to the elaborate altars and pews are fabulously done in true Baroque style. The facade of the... More

It was closed when I arrived, from the look behind the door's glass it looks beautiful and interesting. Not a must since its quite small but if you're in the area its nice to visit.

Just tucked away across a square from a major pedestrian shopping street, this church is small but has some beautiful features. A few minutes inside will convince you that the outside of the book often doesn't reveal the treasures within. Enjoy. And no charge.

Staying in District I / Buda

Neighbourhood Profile
District I / Buda
The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.
