A very nice park and great place to stroll - Varosliget 2023
When you are in the area of Heroes square in Budapest , you have the opportunity to take a walk in the Varosliget - a nice park in the city - a huge green area with alleys, bars, restaurants, baths, museums, Zoo , etc. etc. We where there just strolling , stopped at a terrace for a few drinks and we went on ... but in the hot summer days a walk in the shade can be really rejuvenating ... plus with so many things at hand, in the same area it is great to walk regardless the season ... When you are in the area , and you feel like strolling I would say it is definitely worth it. Go and check it out for yourself.

I recommend it for a visit.
If you have time, go to the park, if you don't have time, go anyway!😁😁😁 The park is just very nice. It is diverse and wide-format. From a replica of a medieval castle to modern sports grounds. Monuments and entertainment necessary for a comfortable life, sports in one place. I recommend it for a visit.

    Worth a visit any season
Lots to do. New Music and ethnography buildings as well as the lovely vadahunyadi and szechenyi architectural wonders. In winter there’s ice skating and spring and summer there’s markets and fairs. Lots of photo opportunities with statues, trees and lots of activities going on.

Lovely open park space. Great for walking or cycling. Free acces. Visited in December when there was an ice rink (entry fee) set up. Amazing buildings around the park housing a variety of cultural activities. Lots of places to get food & drink.
Also access to Szechenyi thermal baths (fee to enter)

Overall a nice park with many statues and old buildings scattered about it. There are also several toilets, some you pay for,one is free but some of the pay ones where out of action. There also a massive sloping garden with a metal memorial between to two sides of it. When we visited there was no water in either the lake or the moat and it looked like it was going to stay that way for a little while. There is also a brand new cultural centre/music hall just been built in a modern style. The park also contains the city zoo.

We entered this huge green space at Ajtósi Dürer sor, end, finishing at Heroes Square, the park its self is lovely just to walk around, enjoying the peaceful, tranquility, if that is not enough there are also places to visit and see.
Millennium House and fountain; beautiful structure, cafe and museum.
various monuments and statues

We walked up the beautifully lit road to Heroes Square, a stunning array of architecture and lovely at night. The ice rink looked wonderful and was bigger than a football pitch. A lovely place to spend time in the day or at night,

Fantastic project with an incredible vision. Changing the park from a Soviet neglected area to one of the best parks in Europe, perfect for anyone to enjoy. Incredible architecture and really relaxing.

One of the favorite walking areas in Budapest is the Varosliget park - and there is a good reason for this - very close to the Heroes square, with a good "network" of walkways but also containing several landmarks and points of interest.
It was the same for us - after a 4 hours drive from Timsioara (typically is less - it is about 3 hours , but this time at the border crossing it was a 1 hour wait ) we stopped at the Varosliget park for a stroll to stretch a bit and unwind from the drive.
Anyways it is one of my favorite parks to take a walk when I'm in Budapest because regardless the season it is always interesting and always I discover things that previously slipped my attention.
In the park of near park you shall find the Szechenyi bath (this is near the park) , the Zoo of Budapest (near the park) , Varosliget Lake (in the park) , Vajdahunyad Castle (in the park) , House of Music (in the park) , Budapest ice ring (in the park) , Heroes Square (near the park) ... etc. So, if you want you can plan your entire day to spend it in the area of Varoliget park.
Entrance is free of charge - for the park itself - to the Szechenyi bath or Ice Ring , Zoo , Museums you will pay a fee for visiting.
Nevertheless, it is a beautiful area for walking and enjoying some fresh(er) air in the middle of Budapest.

Beautiful lighted in the night and if you are lucky and the lake is frozen, you will see people ice skating!
Magnificent nature.

One of the many parks of Budapest ... with a very big area , just behind the Heroes square.
It is great in every season - we were there in the winter - in January 2020... but the place was also interesting at that period of the year too.
Beside the walkways there are also several other landmarks or points of interest in the area. To give just a short list:
- the Varosliget Ice Rink - that is only open in the winter.
- Vajdahunyad Castle
- Szechenyi Baths
- Restaurants are also to be found here ( Gundel, Robinson, etc.)
- Budapest Zoo.
- Museum of Transportation.
- Heroes Square is in close vicinity.
Visiting the park is free of charge and you can get there using public transportation also ... overall interesting if you care for a stroll. Go and enjoy.
