Excellent tour with very knowledgeable guide.
We are not opera lovers, but we were impressed with the high-quality tour of this exquisite opera house. The guide was impressive in her breadth and depth of knowledge, and was so much more vibrant and engaging that the droll audio guides that some tours employ. Her enthusiasm for the art really came through in the tour. The little opera scene at the end was a real treat.

    Absolutely recommended!!
If you are a backpacker and don’t have so much money, you can buy a ticket around 1500-2000 forint. You’ll have a chance the look around and also watch a good show such a cheap price. PS: With cheap ticket, you’ll have sight loss :) Spectecular building, loved it!!!

Excellent tour with very knowledgable guide
We had an excellent hour long tour with a very knowledgable guide. The building has a very interesting history and stunning interior and is well worth the visit. The short opera scene at the end was also a great experience. As someone that isn’t an opera fan, I found the tour a much better experience than seeing a show itself (although these can be viewed very cheaply). Not an inexpensive tour but one worth doing.

    Impressive Historic Opera House
We took the tour offered at the Opera House. At the time of our visit, they seemed to go every hour. The guide was very informative. We got to see some of the behind the scenes areas of the Opera House as well as the seating and reception areas. Well worth seeing.

    A day at the Opera
So I decided to go last minute and it was amazing! I am so glad I went the tour guide was very nice and she was cracking joke the whole time too. The Opera House is stunning. On the inside you can really see the pride they took in building it. I would say the cherry on top was the mini opera perforce and the end was fun to watch and get a taste of what they do.

    A fantastic place to visit
Wow! This is a fantastic place to visit. You must book a timed guided tour. You are walked through the amazing public spaces. At the end of the tour, we were treated to a mini operatic performance. A wonderful experience!

    A magical evening
We saw the Magic Flute at the opera house. The opera house is the most beautiful I have seen from many cities in the world (including Carnegie Hall in NYC where I live). It is also small, intimate, and charming

    Amazing!
We booked Madame Butterfly in concert to round off our amazing trip to Budapest and it was superb. The Opera House is beautiful, patrons dressed in their finest, helpful staff, brilliant orchestration and top quality performances. A must do!

    Worth seeing mini opera
Had a tour and a mini opera. The tour was very informative. The lady giving it was excellent, knowledgeable, funny and loud enough to hear. Beautiful building with original features. The mini opera was performed on the staircase which was a shame. But it was well worth watching. I enjoyed the experience but 10mins opera was enough for me. Prob sitting on the stairs didn't help.

    Wonderful Evening
We booked tickets for Nabucco. We tried to book from the UK but all sold out. We popped into the box office when we arrive in Budapest and manged to get tickets for a box - same price as "normal" seats in auditorium when booking from back home. We were over the moon and had a wonderful view of the stage and orchestra. The performance was wonderful, very moving. The theatre is beautiful. We were unable to pre book our drinks as the website was down. Although not supposed to, we snuck in some bottled water as didn't fancy standing in the queue at intermission. There is no bag check. Also, no programs were available - something we like to keep as a souvenier.

What a magnificent opera house. One of the grandest in all of Europe, with fantastic acoustics. The gold leaf decor glows all over and has very comfortable seats. If you’re an opera aficionado like me, go!!! Tickets available on line and very easy to obtain.

We enjoyed our tour although it was very crowded which made it a little hard to move around. The tour guide was very good, upbeat and informative. We had read previous reviews about the auditorium being dark during a rehearsal so we emailed the opera house before booking our tickets to make sure we didn’t go during a rehearsal time. I was a little disappointed with the singing at the end - thought it was going to be in the auditorium but it was on the steps that were already full with our tours so no place to sit. But overall I would recommend.

We took an English language tour of this breathtaking opera house. The gilded, domed ceiling and the rest of the architectural details and decor were impressive. The history of the opera house was very interesting, and our guide was cheerful and informative. The highlight of our visit was a bonus performance by costumed members of the opera company.

We opted to do the short tour of the opera house which we all throughly enjoyed. The lady that took the tour was very informative and we found out a lot about the theatre when sat in the auditorium. We were allowed to have five minutes or so exploring the boxes and then at the end were treated to a 10 minute opera which was great. The total cost for the 4 of us worked out about £96.

Magical Opera building. We watched CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA / PAGLIACCI. There were 2 operas at the same night. Orchestra and cast were magnificent.

Beware to buying a ticket to go to one of the operas. We bought two tickets for Figaro, the tickets had “house of the opera” on them. We arrived 15 min early to find that the function was at a different venue not specified in the tickets or email of confirmation. Worse part is that the “supposed” location was far away and in a horrible neighborhood. Very disappointed and feel taken advantage of.

Wonderful venue and superb music and singing. We paid £3 each for standing seats, which were at the top and actually was space to lean on a padded bench. Great when we just wanted to catch 30mins to get the experience.

On the guided tour, you get to see several areas used for the nobility and royalty during the opera house’s heyday. You also see the auditorium. Pretty much everything but backstage! So, this is a historical tour rather than a tour going over how the productions are done today. The guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining. At the end is a short performance which is very beautiful. Even if you don’t like sitting through 5 hour operas, the tour is very worth it

We were originally going to book a ballet, but it was an extremely long performance and not one I knew so we instead opted for the tour. I do not think it was cheap, £20 each for quite a short tour is quite pricey, but we did have a great time and it was a lovely building to tour. Out tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly and we even got to sit in the boxes for a wonderful view of the incredible auditorium. They had just finished a rehearsal so there was a lot of hustle and bustle but it was great to experience and it is definitely worth a visit.
