Neighbourhood: District I / Buda
The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.

The entrance fee to visit the church interior is well worth it. The church has stunning interior with mesmerising stained glass windows. The museum is part of the ticket fee and well worth the visit if you have time.

    Bier from outside
Beautiful architecture from outside , nicer view as per of full area. Interesting from inside, but not so special. Some modern touches not fitting at all with gothic architecture. But nicest to extreme was the organ concert we went, that was 100% special. Apparently not so frequent, but if you have the chance, don’t miss it. Amazingly how sound fills the full big church and how many different sound just one instrument can play

Be prepared for lots of people - but it's absolutely worth it!
Stunning view from Buda to Pest but usually there are way too many people. For architect students and for people who like beautiful creatures and architectures from the human kind, it's a must. It's also great to just walk in and be there in the moment for a couple of minutes as well. It's a treasure left behind from the 13th century. If you're visiting Hungary, Budapest you have to see this!

    Beauty and colour everywhere
The inside of the church is amazing the design the colours on the pillars is so different to any other church we hav visited. Then the ceiling is beautiful paintings plus you hav stained glass windows. You can climb some stairs and look down on the church Parts of the roof are decorated with colourful tiles made in pec’s making a weird and wonderful design. Well worth a visit.

    Stunning Arches
It’s a very nice church and for the price it’s definitely worth taking a stop and looking inside it we didn’t go up the tower just cause we didn’t feel like walking up the 150-200 steps. There is enough of a beautiful view from the fisherman Bastion or Budas castle just down the road. The inside of the church has beautiful Stainglass windows and lovely architecture. With some Crown jewels, beautiful masonry, and some old Bibles/artwork on display

Fascinating church inside, including a small museum
This was a great church to visit - great looking from the outside with its beautifully tiled roof. Inside was even more impressive with its intricately painted walls, pillars and ceilings. Included in the church is a gallery museum which is worth visiting

    Beautiful
Beautiful building both inside and out. Stunning artwork inside and amazing stain glassed windows. Great views of the main chapel from upstairs. When up in the Budacastle area take some time to visit.

    Stunning
Walking around the wonderful Fisherman's Bastion I passed Matthias Church ,viewed it many times on many great holidays to this amazing city and it still impresses me. Matthias Church ( The Church Of The Assumption Of The Buda Castle ) is the beautiful Roman Catholic Church that sits on Trinity Square. Originally constructed in 1015 in a style of architecture known as Romanesque but what we see today is more in line with Gothic style architecture from the 14th century but in the late 19th century the church underwent an extensive restoration . This church has seen two kings crowned here so it has sometimes been refereed to as Coronation Church Of Buda ,it's a very popular tourist destination ,every aspect of the church is outstanding as is the area that it's located ,I love visiting the church and Fisherman's Bastion ,if you're planning a holiday to Budapest it's most definitely well worth checking out especially if you're Buda side of the River Danube.

    Beautiful Church
This church by FIsherman’s Bastion is worth a quick stop if you have time while visiting Fisherman’s Bastion. The interior of the church is nowhere as imposing as other large cathedrals but has a more intimate setting. Tickets to enter can be purchased opposite the church’s south side adjacent to where tickets for Fisherman’s Bastion are sold. There was also a very small gift shop inside.

    Imposing building!!
Matthias Church is unlike many of the typical churches dating back to the Middle Ages. Be prepared to be surprised for its off the beaten track inner beauty. The church was used as a coronation church by Hungarian kings for centuries, also a mosque for over 150 years by the Ottoman Turks, once owned by Franciscans, Jesuits, now a thriving Catholic church with holy masses, concerts, plenty of weddings, thousands of tourists. The graceful architecture and stunningly rich, all embracing wall paintings of the majestic building will leave you speechless. While the outside of Matthias Church offers the historical beauty of traditional Gothic churches with delicate turrets, the coloured tile roofs already give away that this church is not following the usual recipe: entering inside the church you will experience one of the most welcoming combinations of warm lights, shadows and colours with orange, brown, golden hewed frescos reaching from floor to ceiling, beautiful stain glass windows, far reaching arches, century old wooden pews, medieval remnants!

Set in the middle of old town Buda, on the famous Castle Hill this is a very eye catching Church. Not so big you might expect, it was a coronation place of Hungarian kings dating back to 12c.
Most spectacular is the roof with color patterns and the interiors with stained glass and high Gothic arches.

Beautiful refurbished church on the Buda side of the river near the Castle. Originally built in the 11th century (on the remains of at least one previous church whose foundations, complete with skeletons, are revealed in the floor) the church is marked on the exterior by its tiled roof.

Absolutely amazing. I went to the concert and it was a transcendental experience- the most beautiful music, the light reflecting off the painted walls of the church, just absolutely gorgeous. Massive thank you to Steve and the woman outside who were selling tickets for the concert- they were extremely kind to us.

This church is gorgeous inside and you also get to go into the small museum which is very interesting. The price is pretty fair for what you get and there were no queues so you don’t need to buy beforehand.

Visited here on our tour of Budapest. Situated on Buda hill, this church is very ornate inside, especially the columns and ceilings.

A big church located on the same premises as Fisherman's Bastion. There is an entry for adults if you want to go inside the church. Beautiful architecture.

This beautiful, historic church is located in the castle district on the Buda side. Because there is so much to see in this sector, it is crowded with tourists. But it is a grand structure with amazing architecture and decors. Don't forget to admire the colorful, tiled roof which is a work of art in itself.

Beautiful Church in a glorious setting. Warmer feel than St Stephen’s Basilica in the centre of Pest. Last Tuesday we were fortunate to catch a wonderful free choral concert by a UK choir. Recommended.

Loved this church. The outside looks great with the tiled roof but the interior is also very grand, with lovely paintings and great stained glass windows including one of the lamb of God, as well as oldest stone carving in Budapest. You can see why it was chosen as place to annoint kings.
