For art enthusiasts!

Beautiful building inside and out. Lots of paintings to see. However, no map is handed out to you - so sometimes you get a bit lost and dont know what is what.

Went specifically to see the 19th Century exhibits, but half of them were closed for the rennovation. Disappointing, but I understand they have to do it in the off season, but still disappointed.

We took the bus a short walk from our hotel in Andrassy Ave and it was very easy to get to the museum and come back the same way. The outside grounds are beautiful and very pleasant and the Inside discovery of the Paintings & ART inside is a must do.

3 floors of excellent art. A must see for art lovers. I especially enjoyed the 3rd floor which showcased more modern work.

we love art ! We were fortunate to be in Budapest when the museum had on display Picasso & Modigliani . I just love both artist, this exhibit was based on their lives and transitions, and how their art evolved .

Nice collection of paintings of different times, I really enjoyed visiting it. Most of the names were unknown to me as it's a national gallery and I didn't know much about Hungarian artists, but now I know there were some INCREDIBLY talented ones.

We walked up Castle Hill to visit the National Gallery and spent an enjoyable and educational 4 hours as we viewed works of art in galleries on multiple floors. During our stay in Budapest, we happened to visit the Modigliani Exhibition in Hungarian National Gallery. We have not toured round the whole complex due to time constraint but saw many beautiful paintings from the Hungarian artists. Really a nice visit.

Staying in District I / Buda

Neighbourhood Profile
District I / Buda
The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.
