Neighbourhood: District I / Buda
The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.

Spent the day wandering around, looking at the history and visiting a few museums. Worth spending the time to enjoy the day.

Very beautiful and much bigger than expected. Loved the mix of different styles. Loved this part more than the actual fortress above.

During most of my trips to Budapest, a city I have visited over 50 times, I make it a point to visit Castle Hill. I usually stay at the Budapest Hilton, shop at the local stores, savor the delicacies at Fisherman's Bastion and other restaurants on Castle Hill, and enjoy strolling around the streets to appreciate the ever-improving scenery, as buildings are renovated.

We visited on a sunday morning at May. we got there via bus 105 and the funicular railway, arriving around 10.00. We spent a couple of hours looking around including the castle. Fantastic views. Was getting busy at around 12.00, so suggest getting there early.

A must visit while in Budapest. There are also bars where you can get a drink and look for a bench under the shade to enjoy the view. Stop 9 of the sightseeing bus.

This is the most stunning part of Budapest, I’ve been twice and it was just as magical the second time around! I recommend allowing a full day here as there is so much to see and do

Varhegy is the area / neighborhood of the Buda hill castle. It has some lovely parks and obviously has lots of nice buildings as it has the castle and churches and fisherman bastion. There is nice views over the Pest side. When your in Budapest, its a must to come to this area as it has a lot of the tourist items a traveler has to see.

Historic hilltop neighborhood rebuilt after WWII. Includes the sprawling castle complex. The "reconstruction" after WWII has continued to the present, resulting in a somewhat confusing mix of structures. The area is currently undergoing a lot of conversion of buildings into high-rent offices and flats, which is quite controversial. The best views of the hilltop grandeur is from afar, looking up at the hill from a distance.
