Right in the middle of the Danube rive you can find this island that is basically a huge park. Accessible from the Margaret bridge by tram or by foot.

.....little or nothing to do unless you go for a swim (costume needed) or a long walk( good shoes). Nothing really for children. A nice stroll and not much else

Took the option to step off the cruise boat at Margaret Island. It's in the middle of the Danube and is also accessible from the Margaret Bridge. Mainly used for leisure activities with opportunities for jogging, cycling, tennis, swimming and other sports. Popular for locals to walk or run in the evenings and weekends. Offers good views of the city.

This place is defiantly a must while in Budapest. You can rent bicycle at the enterence or just walk around. It is really beautiful and if you're into sports you can find good running trail here. Tip: if possible plan to visit this place on a nice sunny day...

I have been jogging in the Margaret island several times when in Budapest. It offers a 5 km track round the island. In the island there are many other attractions such as outside pools (entrance needed) sports area, restaurants and bars.

Staying in Margaret Island

Neighbourhood Profile
Margaret Island
For Budapest, this island between the banks of the Danube represents a green oasis, especially during summer when its emerald spaces are much enjoyed by both locals and tourists. The gardens here are very picturesque; the flowers in full bloom give the landscape a variety of hues; the fountains add an air of freshness, making walks peaceful, joyful and romantic. A leisurely stroll will uncover a variety of sites, even the ruins of a medieval Franciscan church and convent are still visible.
