The haunting weeping willow sculpture serves as a memorial for the over 400,000 Hungarian Jews who were murdered in the Holocaust and for Raoul Wallenberg, who helped save so many of them.

I received a scholarship named in honour of Raoul Wallenberg so when I was in Budapest I made it a priority to visit this memorial. It is hauntingly different from any other memorial I have seen. As an added moving moment I was privileged to meet a gentleman who was one of the children saved by Wallenberg.

Unfortunately, we arrived after four so we could not enter but it is visible from the street. The memorial tree is very beautiful set amidst a tranquil garden. A fitting tribute to a great man.

On the grounds of the Dohany street synagogue, right behind the mass graves of victims of the Budapest getto slaughter, the memorial commemorates each individual vuctim who has a known name.
Must see as part of the Jewish quarter tour. Don't forget the museum (not the one next to the memorial, the one with the entrance to the left of the entrance to the synagogue)

We were shown and explained this Memorial on our guided tour of the Synagogue. Very upsetting, but it helps remember those Hungarian Jews who were helped by a wonderful man.

This well thought-of memorial pays tribute to a wonderful man, who saved tens of thousands of Hungarian Jews during WWII.
The weeping willow monument features the family names of the over 400,000 Hungarian Jews murdered in the Holocaust.
