I went to Sziget Festival for the first time on my own as a single female in 2019, hoping to just do my own thing and meet people there. I left Sziget knowing I'd be going back every year for the rest of my life! It's truly a unique festival from the location to the people. It's called the Island of Freedom and it really does fit the name.
The food was decently priced (in comparison to the Spanish and UK festivals I've been to, Sziget was better priced) - pricey for Budapest but cheap for a festival.
You can't take alcohol in with you however the drinks prices are relatively well priced with only spirits being a bit too expensive. (But still, in comparison to my other festival experience - still cheaper than average) A lot of people just got into the habit of buying alcohol from the big supermarket nearby and drinking on the grass outside the store to bypass the Sziget prices.
The lineup was star studded in 2019 with massive names playing such as Ed Sheeran, The 1975, Franz Ferdinand, Florence and the Machine, Martin Garrix, Macklemore, and others. The stage was easily seen from quite a ways back (I didn't find it necessary to stand on my toes!), with large screens to help with that too.
There is so much else to do at Sziget in addition to just the music, art, yoga, sport, swimming, boat parties, relaxing on the beach, dancing, a circus, and so much more.
One word of warning, due to the dust and mixing with lots of people you are quite likely to get ill after the festival - so book some recovery time for after the festival!

I went for Liam Ghallagher as a good 50 year old but I discovered artists unknown to me and very good like Yves Tumor or Giuse The Lizia, techno music at the Coloseum and the Bolt Arena with Kevin De Vries very cool. Valid event, quiet environment full of young people.
Regarding the organization I have the following comments:
1) few signs / directions; if you go for the first time you do not know how to get easily and quickly from one stage to another. The staff to ask is often unprepared (!)
2) the VIP ticket is absolutely not worth the money; the terrace is put in a really penalizing position compared to the main stage. There is no special free food or merchandise to exploit, nor who knows what assistance. It's extra money really thrown to the bucket
3) good availability of taxis at the exit, decent variety of street food
4) there are also decent shaded areas in case it is too hot (there are events like FirenzeRocks where you stay under the sun without mercy)
Event where to return for sure, you spend 14 hours standing around but as long as the body holds....

It was amazing! Didn’t expect a lot, it was really well organized. I stayed in a huge queue only once, when we wanted to get cigarettes. Other than that, everything was so fast.
It was very hot, but there were a lot of places where you could get free water, also relax on the beach. A lot of people were complaining about beach, but I understand that it was because of safety reasons and I support this decision.
I really liked food, varieties of activities, circus!
Also decoration was great!
And of course music!!
I will definitely go for the next one and will stay inside of the festival.

The Sziget Boat party specifically - biggest waste of money. Waited on the boat for 1 hour after final boarding time before we even left, barely any sun beds or bean bags as advertised. Average food and drinks. The bus transfer was poorly organised and not worth the 10€, had to wait 30 mins and no one even told you where to get the bus from. Poorly organised and not worth 49€, save your money and drink in the bars in Budapest city or do a boat tour with a different company.
Also, the security guards were way too intimidating as they strolled around what should be a fun environment.

First time I visited the festival. Locals seemed to have been priced out to a point where it is almost as expensive to live there as festivals in England and Denmark.
A lot of false advertisement, like no mention of putting down a 40 euro cash deposit - on a cashless festival - for a 5 euro fan you rent for 30 euros and no pool in the superstar camping.
If you had early moving in and had wooden hut or igloo the electricity first started working after the festival officially started, meaning two days without power.
There are no signs other than to the exit and a general lack of decorations and 'soul', especially due to a lot of motorized vehicles driving around making it dusty, smell like diesel and is inconvenient for the pedestrians.
The festival is 24/7, meaning the music continues until 5 to 6 in the morning and then soundtests start at around 10, meaning there is 4 hours where it is relatively quiet.
Sanitation is generally very good, minimal amount of bugs/mosquitos due to them spraying the whole island and the acts are superb.

What a scam, this was my second time and this edition compares in no way to the previous ones. Terrible organization (it has recently changed), false promises and too commercial.
No free drinking water (wich was promised), disgusting toilets, no crowd control, insane amounts of dust, to many tickets sold and overpriced food and drinks. There are not enough facilities and the staff doesn't seem to know anything. For example: we purchased a locker but when we came to the location they were gone, we were told they were moved to a different location but no one knew where they were.
They also cut corners on decoration, basic information such as direction signs or lights were nowhere to be found. I could go on and on, this is the last time I will visit the festival. It's absurdly expensive for people living in Hungary, even though the festival was once meant as a festival for the people of Hungary. All the unique artists are missing and it has lost it's magic due to capitalism. Too bad.

Sziget went from the best festival I have ever experienced pre-covid to easily the worst. The lack of effort this year was apparent throughout the week and unfortunately this was the year I convinced a group to come along and upgrade to superstar camping. We all paid extra only to be told on arrival that the swimming pool (the only reason to pay for that camping upgrade) was not open. All emails regarding complaints are ignored by the support team. What a disappointment. Can't recommend enough to stay as far away from this festival as possible. What a shame.

Overall good experience. In my opinion the lineup was not very strong this year, I didn’t know a lot of the artists. The mains stage shows were over crowded and it was impossible to see the stage if you were more than 10 people back. Food was good but overpriced. There are limited entrances to get onto the island so it was slow to get off after the main stage shows were over. There were only 3 free water stations which is not enough.

We booked the ticket pass that gave us access for the whole festival. The festival was good fun but did not live up to eat we were expecting. I would still recommend this festival, but I only the day passes. Choose 1 day you want to commit to and enjoy the city break either side. We had the 6 day pass and only went for 3 of the days.
The evening acts were brilliant! The atmosphere was amazing and the crowds were HUGE! During the day there was not much for you to do and the ‘beach’ was not quite what it was made out to be.
Overall, a great festival to visit with friends but really glad we were staying in the city and not camping as we did get bored and enjoyed exploring the city instead.

One of the best festival turned out to be a very unpleasant experience due to the out of range number of people and the dust that is basically killing the lungs of everyone (not to mention services that are too few considering the quantity of people of the island).
Very disappointing on this point of view. People who love camping, relax and listening to music are basically struggling to enjoy what the island of freedom is really meant to be.

Which time do you suggest it’s best for me to go to the entrance, I don’t want to spend so much time waiting for the line there , does anyone knows?

When will Sziget 2023 Day passes be available? And do they get sold out quickly? Right now there are only the 3 day and 6 day ones online

Can you still buy 3 day passes? I can't find them on the website.
Written 12 January 2023
Yes I saw them post it on their instagram the other day. €220 for 3 days on early bird price

Does anyone know if there will be any full festival tickets available that don't include camping? And if so, are they any cheaper? I'm just asking, since we would rather have an apartment and yet attend the entire festival.
Any kind of info, will be much appreciated :)
Written 7 December 2022
In my opinion no, this year they didn't have a pool (it was there but it was empty), the VIP bars were sold out many times before the main act began and the bathrooms are the same ones everyone else uses on the festival so not really an "upgrade". Maybe they will do better next year, I sure hope so!

Hello I’m planning a trip to Sziget festival for 2 days but when I try to rent a tent It is priced for 7 days. Is there any way I could rent and pay for a tent for just 2 days ??
Written 3 March 2020
Unfortunately, so far as I know they rent the tent for the hole duration of the festival. But you can take and use your own tent.
We where 4 people so we rented an apartment (Airbnb) in the center of Budapest for 5 days. The total amount that we pay was less than a tent for 4 people with all the xtras. Plus we had our own bathroom.

Hi, I am looking at buying a 3 day ticket but want to stay in a hotel rather than camp. With a 3 day ticket are you able to leave the festival at night and re enter the following day?
Written 16 February 2020
Hi, yes it is possible to leave and enter the island everyday. I believe the tickets are from about 8am-6am and, after the first day where you have to get ID attached to your wristband, you just need to walk through the gates to enter the festival. My friends and I do this every year and it's very easy to do.
