    It’s almost surreal
Well, it goes without saying that you don’t see a castle sticking out the side of a mountain, even in Europe. Yet there it is. Even if you never stepped inside, it would be worth the trip to just gawk at it from the outside. There are things you forget on trips. This one makes an indelible mark on your mind. There’s not a huge amount to see inside, short of the structure, itself, which is reasonably large and the views from various lookouts, but the whole experience is so neat and fascinating that you are delighted you came. It’s also a great learning activity. The overall story of the place was extremely interesting. All sites you visit try to make it seem that way, but some actually are, inherently so. This is one of them. The other visitors there were clearly having a hoot and it’s hard to imagine that you won’t feel the same visiting here. Coming to Postojna and not seeing the cave and this is trip malpractice.

Amazing castle but super expensive visit
Incredible castle built within the rock of the mountain ! i have never seen anything like it ! Crazy atmosphere and great stories. Good audioguide around the castle. On the négative side : an outrageous 18,50€ per person to visit the place !!!! And another 10€ for 2 hours of parking ! We did not visit the caves ( it’s usually a combined ticked) due to lack of time. It’s a true rip off, being European, that kind of price is very rare, and uncalled for. Especially while we know for a fact that the same castle ( as reviewed on trip advisor) rises their price 2€ / year.

    Unique castle:)
Unique castle, amazing visit, interesting historical facts:) Easy to get there by public transport ( shuttle cost 1€)from Postojna jama. The shuttle departs every hour to the castle and back to Postojna cave. The bus to Ljubljana departs only 3 times per day, also 4 trains from Postojna train station.

A good visit as part of the combo package with the cave
Very unique castle and quite impressive to learn of its history. Easy audio guide. Interesting walk inside visiting different parts of the castle. Beautiful view from the terrace. Best to take the combo package with the cave. Also use the cheap shuttle bus option from the cave to avoid congestion and extra cost at parking here. Can be very crowded during summer so be patient while walking inside.

    How? Why? Unreal and perfext.
Unreal!!!! How can humans build this? The castle in a cave is so strange but makes perfect sense if you lived in a time when people kill each other with spears and swords. The guided path is manageable. Food outside the cold castle was an excellent trip aa well.

    Straight out of a fairytale
We visited the Predjama castle in combination with the Postojna Cave and would definitely recommend getting the combo tickets which are especially for young people or students a great deal. We would actually suggest going to Predjama first and then visiting the caves as the caves are less crowded in the afternoon and the busses back to the central point are getting rare in the late afternoon. It was a magical experience and you get a free audio guide with your entrance ticket. The castle is stunning and the way the history has been made accessed is great. As the steps in the castle are ofen steep or even dangerous i wouldn’t suggest going with kids that are too young. Otherwise, great experience and lovely scenery.

    A good day trip
Fun and interesting adventure for a day trip when combined with Postojna Cave. Ensure you wear adequate walking shoes as there are a lot of step. The audio tour is definitely worth the extra money. Pleasant staff. Plenty of snack/refreshments/dining available

    Like a fairytale.
So beautiful it’s hard to believe this is real and not straight out of a fairy tail. Well organised route with audio guide that you tap on each number as you go round so you keep track. Well worth it

Predjama castle is a must visit attraction when in Slovenia!
Loved this castle built into a cave. Be prepared for lots of steps but when you get up there you get some amazing views. Apparently it’s about 800 years old but I enjoyed the blending of the castle construction and the cave itself. Hard to imagine how the inhabitants lived. Really worth visiting!

    Stunning Castle
Predjama Castle is a castle in Slovenia. It is near the small village of Predjama. Built in 1274 at the mouth of cave, it was extended over the next three hundred years to what is there today. The cave system the castle is built into has an entry/exit above and below the castle. The castle is visually stunning and viewing it is certainly a WOW moment - the history and displays I’m the castle are excellent and it is well worth the visit. It costs 12 Euros to enter the castle.

Along with the nearby caves, we thought this would be a good rainy day alternative. Going inside is quite worthwhile, actually, no matter what a certain expert on Europe may claim. Is it the best castle in the world? No. But going inside gives you an appreciation of how it's built into the cave. The architectural features make it unique.

Audio guide was filled with interesting facts and stories, but not too long for a child (8) to listen and pay attention. The castle is just so stunning it's easily worth the trouble of getting there!
Also, we had some nice home food with a good price in a restaurant in front of the castle. Would definitely recommend!

This is one of our favorite castles in Europe so far. We visited as a family of 5 with kids aged between 11-18. Our ticket was part of a combo ticket with the Postojna Cave. We spent €186 for entry to both and for an English audio guide at the cave. When you get to Predjama, you park in a paid lot and walk up a steep but short path to the castle. There are bathrooms and snack options leading to the castle. Once at the entry, there is a QR code to download the app which has the audio tour. There were about 27 listening stops in the tour. We LOVED the tour. It was so interesting and it was easy to imagine what it may have been like to live there. There were a lot of stairs in the tour so beware and take your ibuprofen in advance if your knees aren’t agreeable. We spent about an hour exploring. Make sure to make a wish and ring the bell!

Home many times are you going to see a castle built into a cave/hillside? Not only are the cave walls part of the walls of some of the rooms, but they also designed it and built channels to funnel the water inside the cave to collection points for usage. It's just so cool. The ingenuity of the place is fascinating well beyond the visual of it. Which is also cool. The museum inside is interesting as you follow the numbers through. Definitely get the audio guide here as you would miss so much otherwise. It can get pretty tight inside at times as this was not designed for large amounts of people at once and there are many areas that can be a little tricky to get around. Like the very uneven and tall steps cut out of rock that can be wet and slippery from water in the cave as they steeply wind up to a small lookout that dozens of people are trying to traverse at once. The best views are from outside, looking at the castle but you need to go in to experience this.

When saw the spectacular pictures of the castle right in the rocks, expectations grow. View point is perfectly located to take fantastic pictures, but the castle itself in my opinion is nothing special, especially for the money paid.

This cliffside fortress:
• Has a labyrinth of secret underground passages and tunnels carved from solid bedrock.
• Was originally built in the 13th century.
• The fortress served as a stronghold for many bandits and robber barons throughout its fascinating history.
• This is the largest cave fortress in the world.
The self-guide tour through the fortress / home / castle is supported with portable audio devices, that you que up as you enter the various areas and listen to the history.
This castle fortification is a massive labyrinth of layers of fortification, all the way up to the upper level of defense (Keep cave = last line of refuge / defense). The entire countryside below the castle was once cleared of trees (in its day), to prevent any attacking army any such cover. The castle went through a one-year siege, but secret tunnels under the mountain cave system kept the defenders supplied with provisions. A servant was captured and gave the enemy information to the one weak spot on the mountain face fortress where the walls were the thinner (the toilet area) and a massive Trabert-Shary assault catapult penetrated that location with many stone balls (stones about the size of beach balls).

Lots to see and well worth the combination ticket (the Postojna Caves).

One of the most beautiful castles.i have visited. Really worth visiting it. Impressive, in an amazing area . We had tickets also for the cave, so we had a small discount. I didn't like that you paid both parkings (for the cave and then for the castle) and you didn't have choice to park somewhere else. Also the tickets were expensive. Despite of these , I believe that it worths.

This is just an amazing castle …. A dream place full of adventures and surprises in side … bring comfortable shoes and with some grip this place is natural wet … there is not lifts…. The castle is full of hidden corners that takes you to a nice natural cave. You need a car or a tourist bus to reach this place . You must pay for parking per hour. The castle is in the world Guiness records of the largest castle built on a cave. They have audio Guia in many languages. People were polite and nice.
