We walked through this square and its large park a few times since it was near where we'd left our car to walk into the Old Town. It has a giant anchor on a large base which stands out as you walk past, as well as some nice green lawn. You can walk from here to the nearby Republic Square and its government buildings via an underpass. The entire area was worth the 20 minutes or so we wandered around and people watched while admiring the views. The picturesque University building is also facing onto the square.

We visited this square when in Ljubljana in early March 2023.
There was nothing happening and it was pretty bare and not a lot of people about. The park by it was ok but still not much happening.
It is a square of significance to Slovenia as its where they declared independence from Yugoslavia.
It has a roman Emona in the park as well.
There were some restaurants, cafes and shops around it as well.
It has a lot of important buildings around it as well.

This square was located right outside our accommodations and it was ringed by some of Ljubljana’s most important and beautiful buildings, cafes and restaurants. There was also, an underground, very expensive parking garage – The most expensive in the city.

Here one will find the University Headquarters, the Baroque Ursuline Church of the Holy Trinity, and the Philharmonic Hall. The square has national significance as it was here that Slovenia declared their independence from Yugoslavia.

At the top of the square, by the entry to a pedestrian underpass, one will find the 1836 bronze statue of a Roman patrician – apparently an exact replica of an artifact from 1,700 years ago when this town was called Emona. This busy street had been the main trading route through the town since ancient Roman times. It was worthwhile going down the stairs of the underpass as there are various information panels on the history of ancient city.

To the east of the square there is also a ship anchor from 1954 commemorating the annexation of Primorska to Slovenia, while to the west is the copy of the column of the SS. Trinity. In short, a pleasant visit and not to be missed.

A traditional European public and a prominent one in Ljubljana. The square is also one of national significance. It was here that Slovenians declared their independence from the Austro-Hungarian Empire and Yugoslavia. Some of the most prominent buildings include Ljubljana University. Slovenian Philharmonic Building and Casino Building. The square also provides great views of Ljubljana Castle to the southeast.

Spent 2 evenings here having dinner. Plenty of restaurants opposite the exquisite symphony hall and various old buildings. An anchor is the centrepiece. Busy but still quiet in the evening as the sun goes down.

The square itself wasn’t of particular interest but it does have a spacious and good value car park underneath it which I would recommend.

It is a nice big square in the center of Ljubljana. There are around a lot of interesting an famous buildings like the Slovenian Phiharmonic Hall, the University or the Ursuline Church of the Holy Trinity. Also the statue Kip Emonec is there. A part of the square is formed as a green park with a Pavillion and big trees. Once in Ljubljana, you should have been there.

Congress Square is a large open space with beautiful buildings all round and a park in the middle. It has historical importance as it served as the location for demonstrations and proclamations over the years ranging from independence from Austrian-Hungarian rule, end of World \War II and the beginning of the Slovenian spring which culminated in independence in 1991. Among the grand buildings in the square one finds the main building of University of Ljubljana, Ursuline Church of the Holy Trinity and the majestic Slovenian Philharmonic Hall with Castle in the background.

Not really a square, more like a park/meeting place. Nice, nonetheless. Lots of walking space in this lovely city.
