Prešeren Square is truly shining during the Christmas holidays. In the evening the square comes alive, it is a meeting place for young people, but also for tourists who stop to take a photo or have an aperitif. The Franciscan Church on one side and the statue of the Supreme Poet on the other make it even more beautiful and important.

Preseren Square is the epicenter of old town Ljubljana. The sights and party begin here. The Preseren statue with his muse looking over his shoulder as he sneeks a peak at his 14 year old crush, Juliana, across the square set the stage. The iconic Triple Bridge is adjacent to the square and the Covered market is across the Triple Bridge and around the corner. Restaurants, shops and people watching abound. Welcome to Ljubljana!

This square is located right near the heart of downtown/old Ljubljana. It is named after France Preseren, who was a Slovenian poet, and there's a statue of him there on the square. The square and statue seem to be somewhat of a meeting point, both for locals and for tourists (our walking tour of the city started there). It's fairly scenic, with the Triple Bridge crossing the Ljublanica Bridge to the old town itself, as well as the big pink Franciscan Church. There isn't necessarily a lot to do here, but it makes for a good meeting point and people watching, as well as some photo opportunities.

The "main" public square of Ljubljana that connects to the Triple Bridge and other attractions, no other place can get more touristy than this place. This is the square to visit to soak in the Ljubljana culture, with a good view of the castle and river, with throngs of tourists and different stalls around.
There are also the occasional music players to add to the atmosphere, but place can be crowded, so do take care of your belongings just to be safe.

Preseren Square hosts the statue of the poet of the same name, celebrated in Slovenia. His statue is always looking at a balcony in front of him, where the statue of his inspiring muse is located. The place is great to start your visit to the historic center

Being on this square is as if you are in the center of the world!! many tourists especially during the summer season, many groups and everything around there close to what you need to see as a visitor! a convenient capital of the pocket! I have characterized it! clearly everywhere fully organized and very beautiful! your favorite destination has trains for touring the city and a boat on the river in Ljubljana! around and across the river and on the 2 sides of the very beautiful coffee ice cream restaurant, etc!! that I wear the fun!!

It is real center of the city, wherever you go in Ljubljana, you have to visit this square. Especially on Silvestrovo, square is full if people, small shops selling local fast food. Really living place, surrounded by river, 3 bridges, open market, local shops....

Preseren Square is the most beautiful and famous square in the Slovenian capital and represents the typical postcard image of Ljubljana. The square is bordered by the river and the famous triple bridge also stands next to it. To be observed in this square there are several elegant buildings, the pink facade of the Franciscan church, the monument to the romantic poet France Preseren and a scale model of the city centre. Authentic heart of Ljubljana.

Ljubljana in December is very beautiful, the thousand lights on trees and monuments make it romantic and create atmosphere. Amazing lights!
It's a shame that the Christmas markets (listed on various Slovenian and non-Slovenian sites) are really disappointing.
Very few markets, some made up of a negligible number of houses (3..4 houses that only sold hot drinks). Numerous markets with local crafts were indicated on the sites, in reality there were very few those selling handicrafts and the markets were around ten houses.
High prices for being in Slovenia, both for objects and food and drinks (hot chocolate or tea in a paper cup to take away at an outdoor stall €5).

On my visit, Preseren Square was somewhere which I walked by frequently, as it is in the center of the old town, right next to the triple bridge. As the weather was warm (over 30 degrees each day) I found the sprinklers which had been installed in the square to act as rain a brilliant relief from the heat.
The history of the buildings/statues around the area are also great, after learning about what survived the 1895 earthquake on one of the walking tours, seeing the 'newer' buildings and learning about the different styles was great.

How far is Central Hotel from Preseren Square?

5 mins max on the side of the "big orange building!" Very close & great views of castle floodlit at night if you choose the right room.
