This square is across the river from the Old Town and a couple blocks in. It wasn't especially scenic, but we did stop and take a look at the obelisk of Napoleon that is on it. Napoleon apparently made Ljubljana the capital of some of his provinces, and recognized their Slovenian language, so he is still looked up to here; thus the monument (I believe officially named the Illyrian Monument). The square is fairly near the National Library.

This square is essentially an open lot parking lot – we parked our car rental here as it was close to our accommodations. There were some interesting buildings such as the former palace of Count Maursberg, which today is the home of the Municipal Museum of Ljubljana.

The entire southwestern part of Old Ljubljana belonged to the order of the Teutonic Knights, the Knights of the Cross (Krizniki), therefore the entire complex around the French Revolution Square is still called Krizanke.

The Knights of the Cross occupied the place in the 13th century, and established a monastery and a church in the name of Saint Mary.

While walking to our car, we came across an obelisk dedicated to the Illyrian republics founded by Napoleon, and in fact in memory of Napoleon. Napoleon's head rises in honor from the column, and below it are engraved rhymes from the "Ode on the Illyrian Republics" by the Slovenian poet Vodnik. Inside the column are buried the ashes of a French soldier who was killed in 1813 in a battle against the Austrians. The Slovenians appreciate Napoleon, who gave them a very short period of freedom from the yoke of the Austrians. Napoleon designated Ljubljana the capital of his “Illyrian provinces,” 1809-1816, and the monument is thus known as the “Illyrian Monument.”

The French Revolution Square has been around since 1793, when it was known as Križniški trg, after the German Knights who lived there. Today, it’s a pleasant public square. There’s several monuments in the square and the most significant buildings are the Križanke Summer Theatre and Galerija Vžigalica. The City Museum is also very close by. Not a tourist hotspot, but a nice place to soak up some culture.

One could hardly expect to see this kind of monument in any other place but France, and its neighbour countries perhaps.
But here it is, a Napoleon tribute in Ljubljana. Very interesting place.

A pleasant place to walk to and take pictures, see around and that is about it. Away from the city buzz.

Pleasant, but nothing extraordinary. Near the University, and has a small dusty seating area hidden to side. Monument is beautiful like many are.
Not a must-see.
Close to Le Pettit Cafe and Pri Mraku.

This is just a small square located in the vicinity of the Krizanke monastery. There's no anything particularly noteworthy to justify a trip here alone, but the area is quite nice and it's pretty close to the old town.

The square has nothing with revolution. It is place with many cultural institutions around: National library (architect Jože Plečnik), City museum and small place for exhibition, small Baroque church and Križanke monastery, transformed in a summer festival place by architect Plečnik. Main point of the square is an obelisk, dedicated to Illirian provinces and to Napoleon. You can go to a concert, to an exhibition or just around the place to look at architecture and monuments.

Towards the edge of town, this square is a bit less busy and a bit more relaxed than the larger ones nearer the centre. There is a column dedicated to Napoleon and some fine old buildings around the perimeter. This area has a student air about it and there are museums, theatres and galleries in the surrounding streets. It is well worth seeking out for the contrast with the more popular central areas.
