Public Square to the South of Main Sights

This is one of the main public squares in Ljubljana and is named after Solvenian writer, Fran Levstik. Like many other public squares in the city, this is lined with shops and cafes, but the most prominent feature of the square are the St. Mary's Column, Hercules fountain, The Janez Levac Training Institute and Church of St. James.

Levstikov trg has two main places. Left side of the square is parking and sandy yard near the main entrance of the St. James’s church. Right side is separated with round, concrete balls and is arranged as a place devoted to St. Mary. It has huge monument with some saints and Mary in the middle. Behind the monument is a fountain with some fresh water. This part is interesting for a short visit or a starting point when you walk up to the castle. Prešeren lived some years in a house at the back of the square.
