I mainly went to visit Kieslowski who’s movie always urge me visit Poland. Heard that his grave is pretty hard to find, but the luck is at our side on that day, we arrived at front gate, turned left along the wall walk for around 5 mins, it located at around 10 graves away at our right hand side, so walk slow and seek carefully is the key to reach there.
Beside that, this is a historical location and would be good to have a walk there to have some silent time.

We have a family there so visit often but it is a museum. Full of sculpture and important Polish personalities. Visiting when it is full of candles on All Souls’ Day is magical. If you like cemeteries, and I do, well worth a visit.

Hi, after a lot of wrong information on here and on the internet, I set out to find the grave of Wladyslaw Szpilman from the amazing film "The Pianist" whilst I was on a European travelling holiday.
For all who would like to visit this grave, here is the actual location.
It is NOT in the Powazki cemetery.
It is in the Military cemetery which is further up the road. If you continue past the Powazki cemetry with it on your left, cross the road and continue. You will pass an Indian restaurant and an Orlan petrol station. Just past the fuel station there is an entrance. Go through this and go straight. You will pass a building on your left and will come to a cross path. If you cross this path and immediately look to your left, you will see a stone on the floor marked "A3". There is a gap in the hedge. Go through and you will find 3 rows of graves. Go to the far right row and count 11 graves in. You will then be standing in front of Wladyslaw Szpilman's grave.
Sadly I have tried three times to add this location to Trip Advisor due to all the interest in it. Trip Advisor have rejected my requests every time with no reason. I am now going to stop adding reviews and add the rest of my future trips to Google Maps.

We visited Powązki Cemetery to see Kieślowski's grave, but walking around the ornate graves was a unique experience. If you want to spend some tranquil time and maybe visit a grave for whom you're specially interested in, don't miss it.
*Finding Kieślowski's grave on our own was very difficult, because the cemetery is extremely huge, but we asked a polish girl (art/history student?) who was walking in the cemetry and guided us to the plot. If interested, his grave is close to the main entrance (turn left when you enter the cemetry and walk for 1-2 minutes).

If you have been to the famous Pere Lachaise in Paris, you must see this necropolis; it is even better! Powazki has a specific, non-tourist atmosphere, with very old graves dating from 1790, and is composed with thoughtfulness and solemnness. A tourist bus # 180 will take you there from Nowy Swiat or Krakowskie Przedmiescie, and bring you right in front of the gates of the cemetery. If you visit it on a hot sunny day, the old trees give shade and cool down the air. If you come here on November 1, you will feel the elevated emotional atmosphere of all those who visit the graves of their loved ones and light the candles in their memory.

We went to the cemetery hoping to see the graves of Irena Sendler and Wladyslaw Szpilman (The Pianist), but I made a rookie mistake and didn't do my homework beforehand so I didn't see them. Huge is an understatement when describing the Powazki Cemetery. You can literally spend hours walking around. There are many famous and not so famous people buried there, but if you want to find the famous people you will need help. If you Google the cemetery you will be able to find grave numbers for the famous people. If you just want to go and wander around there are many interesting tombstones and memorials to see. It is an interesting place to visit.

Would recommend being guided round as this cemetary is so huge and there are stories galore. Wonderful tour really informative

The cemetery is an open-air museum. Numerous tombs have special sculptures. In this cemetery are resting many famous people of Poland. The cemetery is very large, and its full visit takes 3 hours.

We went to see the cemetery in March 16-th,unfortunatly the weather was against us,so we spent only 2 hour inside.We took the tram 22 from Museum Powstania station to the CM Zydowski 04,then from CMZydowski 02 the bus nr. 180 to the Powazki.The entrance is free,and when you step inside,is like you are entering in another world,the old one.Beautiful statues,beautiful graves,the whole place is very big,you need a couple of hours to see the entire place.I recomand this "old world" to everyone who want to see...something else.

Hi,
On the right of the church there is a panel of the buried personalities in this cemetery and the location of the graves.
I have not seen a billboard with all the people buried here.

Hello, I am traveling to Warsaw in three weeks. I am interested to see the grave of Wladyslaw Szpilman(movie the Pianist). I am looking all over internet but the only info I have on him is that he is buried in Powazki Cemetery, no grave marker so it is almost impossible to find him if I don't have at least a direction in the cemetery on how to visit his grave. I would like to know if there is a guide or book to inform me on where his grave is. I hope you can help. Thank you very much

I am interested in photographing the statues in the cemetary. Are they difficult to find? Are there more in certain sections than in others? Also, does anyone know of a reputable english speaking tour guide that could help me tour tge cemetary?

The cemetery is very accessible to photographers— you might check for the availability of guides @ The Warsaw Voice ( the English language newspaper).
