At the end of the first section of the royal road is this beautiful sculpture of Copernicus.
The famous Polish astronomer sits on a throne holding a globe and feet, in the square, the solar system with the sun at the center!
Well worth a different selfie from the usual! @gargio76

Situated on the Royal Route and close to the University, there is nothing special about the statue but it honours this astronomy pioneer.

Went to the Copernicus science museum which was really good. The amount of things young people could was amazing. There were also lots of hand on things which were excellent. I must have learned quite a lot that day even though my feet were sore from waiting in a long queue to get in. Go early in the morning if the visit is during the school holidays.

Nice statue. Didn't get who it was at first until I read reviews and went back the next time. Don't miss the planets on the ground as well.

Yes, it is just a statue... But then not really! We actually made a point to go there with our two young kids, even if it is just a stop on the way while walking to Old Town. But the way the scientist is depicted, with the solar system on the ground surrounding the statue, is really very nice and makes a great if brief lecture to young kids about the discovery of our solar system. Even locating the earth and the sun on the floor is fun enough... And then you just keep walking and stop for ice cream!

Yes, only a statue, but a monument to a great historical astronomer. Good to see since I love astronomy and it's on the way to the old town anyway, so stop and take a look.

Beautiful monument honoring the memory of Nicolaus Copernicus. It worth a stop by for admiring and have some photos. The statue itself is impressive.

It is sad statue. Tourists are paying respects, no one lical seem to pay any respect. The statue is kind of needing good scrub/clean.

Fine structure and tribute to one of the early pioneers of Astronomy. This is near the junction of Krakowskie Przedmiescie and Nowy Swiat.

For anyone with a geographical bent this is a must see and it is very well done. For someone who came up with the idea that the sun is the centre of the solar system the planets just about circle about him.
