The Nowa Huta Cultural Center is a 'hidden gem' in Krakow if you’re fond of remarkable exhibitions. During our three-day stay in Krakow, the exhibition of Zdzislaw Beksinski was high on the wish list. When we arrived we found out that the exhibition was closed due to COVID-19. Thats when we discovered what “Polish hospitality” means; the friendly security guards took all the efforts and made a private visit to the exhibition possible. They showed real commitment and sensitivity for the service they provided. The works on display of Beksinski are beautifully detailed and impressive. The other exhibitions (Duda Gracz and Monika Palki) were also a real treat. As an extra, you can see gems of street art around the building. A more than successful day!

Exploring this bunker is an amazing experience. You can see how the bunkers "lives" - the filtering, cooling and heating system, the map of the tunnels. It's a MUST for all fans of bunkers and history. The descriptions are in Polish and English.

being a big Wladyslaw Beksinski fan I went there after visiting the Polish Aviation Museum (these two attractions can fill a day in your trip) . and wasn't disappointed -
Beksinski's art is considered dystopian surrealism and is one of a kind.
photographing is not allowed but you can buy a book of the exhibition.

I had the incredible privilege of attending the premiere of their new flagship gallery, a retrospective on Zdisław Beksiński, from his early photography and sketches through to his later paintings. It is beautifully presented, in a darkened room which emphasizes the unconventional blacklight-reactive paints that Beksiński used for limited dramatic effect in his works (and which I had no idea even existed, since it doesn't come through whatsoever in scans or photographs of his work).

I regret not remembering the other artists on display, but the whole museum is wonderful, with lots of bemusing modern photography and some wonderfully kitsch giant mushroom chairs and tables in front. The back of the museum is covered in graffiti and street art (on purpose I imagine), and it faces an absolutely lovely view overlooking rye fields, the vistula river, and the central power station.

I understand that the Beksiński gallery will be permanent, which means I will implore all of you to visit and take in who I believe to be the finest gothic surrealist of the 21st century.
