We visited this place on 15.08.21 when women are actually allowed inside the monastery,only 12 times a year.The place is beautiful in and out.It’s located on top of the hill so if the weather is good you can have nice walk up and down.It’s outside Krakow so you’re gonna have to take taxi or bus

A beautiful walk through the forest and suddenly you are inside this beautiful monastery! Women can enter only few times a year - I was lucky and entered this monastery on the 15th of August - that’s one of the days where they let everyone inside. So peaceful. Beautiful. Gorgeous place. Even though you are still in Kraków it feels you are miles away from the busy city! Beautiful place of prayers!

Availing of a beautifully sunny morning with clear blue sky and being aware of the gender issue of gaining entry, I set out on a solo trip. Enjoyed the journey comprising a tram to Salwator and then bus to Bielany Klasztor. It was a pleasant walk up the incline, that I had totally to myself.
The view of the holy buildings through the entrance archway, catching the red roofed building and a wing of the church, was grand. Arriving at about 07.50 there was time to examine the ornateness of the entrance area. Fine detailed frescoes were to be seen on the walls and ceiling. The wood carved door was admirable.
Had to ring the bell numerous times but eventually the door was opened by a monk who guided me into the inner courtyard. The only building to be visited was the church which was very pleasing, with a wonderful facade. The interior is relatively plain white but the altar area is decorative with a deep blue painting of the ascension providing a grand backdrop.
The courtyard is pleasant with ancillary red-roofed buildings and a lawn area. At the exit there stands a great column with a cross at the apex.

For women, only allowed 12 days per year. Today, Easter Sunday, was one. We took tram to Saltor, but then bus service very infrequent so we took Uber. Once there we had LONG UPHILL climb and while no charge to enter, the crypts were not available. Done in 15 min. Trying to get back to Old Town Krakow was difficult. Infrequent buses and bad Uber experience.

Many times seen from far distance when entering and closer to Kraków on highway from Katowice. Big church actually monastery on hill. It's impressive place. I recommend to se if u not woman.

Visiting the Monastery was my big adventure during our last 6 week trip to Central Europe. From Krakow all you have to overcome as an english speaker is
strange language wi nothing in common with english
streetcar drivers and then tram drivers that when shown the address just shrug
Exited bus in middle of country (30KM from Krakow) with nothing in sight.
showed picture of Monastery to only inhabitant I could roust who pointed up the road.
And that's just the start.
No women admitted unless special holiday's
Men grudgingly admitted or not. You won't really know until you pull the cord on the bell (hard) and hope one of the 8 monks answers it.
And the visit is worth every discomfort mentioned for two reasons:
1-Magnificent silent structure with three onion domes and a crypt that positively scary
2- overcoming the obstacles
It's a tale you'll tell your friends who will sit there awestruck. Even our concierge
in Krakow couldn't believe I'd visited it.
Maybe you'll join the order and increase the population by over 10%.

Nice monastery on the top of the hill. Really nice church. Only seven monks living here right now.

This is a beautiful monastery on the outskirts of Krakow in the lovely Las Wolski forest. This is a very strict order so usually only men permitted to visit, however on 12 days a year, mainly major religious festivals, women are permitted to visit. The church itself is relatively unadorned and 'unmodernised' but the richly decorated side chapels are some of the finest late Baroque in Europe and the crypt is an especially atmospheric place. A beautiful, tranquil place well worth a visit.
