Serving as a royal residence and the site where the country's rulers governed Poland for five centuries (1038-1596), this castle is a symbol of the independent Polish state and today contains a priceless collection of 16th-century Flemish tapestries, considered to be one of the largest in the world.

Only explored the exterior, as everything inside was priced desperately and would have cost a small fortune to see the 6+ attractions as well. The Dragon's Den is closed November - March (?) but we didn't find out until we went looking for it. Underwhelmed when we actually went to buy tickets, but the exterior is stunning. Lots of different... More

Expensive entry price, we looked at the lost wawel and the state rooms as tickets for the private apartment rooms were sold out. The lost wawel was really cool inside and not like any exhibition I've seen before but the state rooms were really disappointing. There was no information for you to read, just lots of similar looking rooms and... More

Walked the Planty route around the old town and took a walk up and around the castle. It's really beautiful, especially in the sunshine, the dragons Den part of the attraction was closed though which we were a bit gutted about as we were looking forward to a walk down the river. Next time though!

Beautiful buildings and grounds. Quite a climb up to the castle and the bones were a bit of a disappointment to my daughter who said "it's only a rib". We'd thought there were more when we'd googled it. Dragon Den was closed and only opens in April. But worth the walk up.

A must for a day . Plenty to see. Get an audio guide-state room commentary excellentto follow but found one for treasury and armoury disappointing as commentator had her likes and dislikes. Still a great day

This is a huge place that is divided into many tours. Each tour is approximately an hour or so but there is a lot of walking and information to take in. The audio tours are phenomenal. Very detailed so that you never get lost or lose the order which the items are presented. Excellent, highly recommend.
